“Great day out”
Reviewed April 5, 2012

We visited this attraction with our teenage children and friend of mine with teenage and younger children. All really enjoyed the beautiul walks and play area. Good to visit but not for a day, an afternoon would be enough.

“A jewel in Wexford's crown.”
Reviewed March 28, 2012

Although the above could be used to describe many of Wexford's attractions, Johnstown Castle, its grounds and its Irish Agricultural Museum are quite exceptional.
We were fortunate to visit on an unseasonably warm March day. Charge for admission applies from 1st April to 31st October. Adults pay €3 for admission to grounds, and €8 for grounds and garden. There are OAP, student, child and family rates also. The castle itself is not open to the public but can be enjoyed visually from outside. There are lakes, and gardens populated with birds, and peacocks wandering around. Formal gardens are in a walled area, and there is a sunken Italian garden which is a lovely sheltered spot for picnics. There are picnic tables here. Extensive walkways, streams, waterfalls and statues all contribute to the beauty of this peaceful place.
The Irish Agricultural Museum shows not only tractors, farm carts and old farming implements, but also furniture from kitchens over the years. It is a must for young and old who will all find much to interest them.
The Peacock Tea Room is situated in the Museum building and provides a good range of meals and snacks at a reasonable price.
Johnstown Castle is situated near the village of Murrintown, and is easily reached, and signposted, from the N25 Wexford town bypass.
Altogether a beautiful place to visit.

Very pleasant surroundings. Lots of things to see. Lovely walks too. Restaurant is very warm and cosy and staff are very friendly. The castle splendidly stands proud among all the tall trees and lake.
