“good value for money, a little noisy though”
Reviewed July 30, 2009

Just back from a few nights mid week stay. Was very good value for money but the two rooms our party had overlooked a busy road (bridge st) and traffic noise was audible in the rooms even with the windows closed. Rooms were decent sized and comfortable.

A few things I wasn't impressed with:
o. cot linen - had booked a cot for our room and while it was in the room when we checked in no linen had been supplied with it. Had to follow up with reception 2 or 3 times to get this which was quite poor.
o. parking - car park is very small with some tight spaces. Fortunately we managed to get a accessible space and didn't move the car so this didn't trouble us too much.
o. bar/restaurant - food in the bar was good but on one of the evenings they stopped serving food in the bar around 8pm as apparently the restaurant was fully booked and the kitchen was overwhelmed with it all. This seemed to impact on a number of hotel guests as they couldn't get a table in the restaurant either that evening. A decent hotel shouldn't get itself into that position.
o. bathroom - one little bottle of shampoo and one body wash for a room that sleeps 3 adults ?

Otherwise fine - staff were friendly, location was handy - fairly central and very easy to find. I could live with the little annoyances considering the price.

It's not that I wouldn't go back but next time I'll probably try somewhere else.

When we first arrived at the hotel, we had a hard time finding a parking space as the garage was too small with very limited spaces. So we had to wait in the car and hoped someone would leave which thankfully happened after 20 minutes. During the time waiting, we noticed very large signs of "CCTV in operation", well, that's good, at least there is some security enforcement.

We checked into our room which unfortunately was right above the driveway into the garage and you could hear the cars down below passing by. We had many problems with the room. The door to the bathroom couldn't shut. There was no ventilation in the room, so we were forced to keep the window opened which unfortunately also let in more noise. The phone in the room did not work, had to go downstairs to tell them to come fix it which took over 30 minutes. The beds were horrible. I flipped open the comforter (it also appeared the duvet was not changed because it smelled of use), and found small hairs on the bed! That was really disgusting. One wonders about the hygiene standard at this hotel. Called down and was told someone will come. After 45 mintues, still no one showed up. So we left to grab dinner outside. But I left a note saying that I wanted an additional sheet (to put between myself and the comforter) and if they could change the bedding, that would be nice too. When we got back, the beds were the way we left it except for the additional sheets just thrown on top of the beds. They didn't bother making the bed or at least get rid of the hairs on the bed. I got the message loud and clear: They could care less!

The shower was horrible, water pressure mediocre. We just couldn't believe that a hotel would use plastic hardware for the shower which could not withstand the constant and careless use, needless to say, the showerhead just couldn't stay put on the holder which was already broken.

When we walked to the car to upload our luggage, surprise!!!! the car window had been smashed in and our personal belonging stolen! There were 2 other cars which encountered the same fate. When we went to get the hotel staff and asked about CCTV, we were told there was no CCTV, the signs were only meant as deterrent. Well, I am sure all the staff at the hotel and the burglars knows about it except us the dumb tourists! That totally gave the visitors a false sense of security! I asked the staff if this happened before and I was told it's the first time ever. An interesting fact was when she went to the garage, she didn't bother to stop at our car, but continued onward to count how many cars were broken into, as if that was a common occurance.

We would never stay there ever again even if Fitzwilton paid us!

Stayed here for one night with girlfriends for a weekend in Waterford. Our first encounter with the hotel was the incredibly tight car park, even with an average sized car the spaces were unbelievably awkward to get into without tipping either another car or one of the many pillars. When we had sorted out the parking we were warmly welcomed at the reception and checked-in quickly. The room was spacious, modern, had all conveniences and a particularly good shower. The hotel is about 5 minutes from the main shopping street and about 2 mintues from a very goodFrench restaurant (La Boeheme). We didn't eat in the hotel but there seemed to be a wide range of options for snacks in the bar and full meals in Chez K also. Overall the hotel is clean, functional, has friendly staff and is a reasonable and convenient option for Waterford city.

This hotel is located in the 'bad' part of Waterford city but is within walking distance to all the main shops/pubs/nightclubs. The rooms are adequate, breakfast was nice and the foyer and bar are very modern. Waterford is alovely place to visit esp Hook Head, Dunmore etc.

My husband and I stayed here last month. I have to say that we were very pleased with this hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location is fantastic, walking distance to everything, not that you need to leave the hotel to eat or drink. Theres a great bar and a fabulous restaurant with a very impressive menu, the food was top class. The same goes for the breakfeast the following morning. The bedroom was really comfortable and modern. All in all we had a very enjoyable experience at this lovely trendy hotel.

Hi all, Stayed at the fitzwilton for two nights in the suite. I have to say only for the room I would not be a happy bunny at all! the suite is worth the extra cash if these points were in place.
1. Breakfast was dry and disgusting
2. The windows in the suite need to be ripped out and a gas filled glazing installed for acustics as I was woke each morning at 7am on the dot with traffic. Realy the hotel needs a visit from an acoustics engineer for all the noise.
3. If you advertise a 39" tv put up a 39" not a 32" (not possible to buy a 39" anyway)
4. Fix the tap at the jacuzzi bath it floods the bathroom floor
5. Either throw out or change the flowers in the room regulary
6. leave a couple of wine glasses in the room
7. Have a turn down service and close all the blinds over the noisy windows for the guests in the evening.
The hotel realy needs to put this right if they want that 4 star status!

The Fitzwilton was located right over the bridge as we entered Waterford. It had been recommended by an Irish friend and so we were very excited to get a very reasonable price. It was a very good value for the price we paid, but we were a little disappointed in the room. The furniture was a bit tired although it was well appointed. There was high speed internet in the room and it had nice amenities. In addition, as it was on a very main street, there was street noise all night long making it quite difficult to sleep. On balance, it was a very good value considering we paid a low price, but I probably would not return. We did love the bar and the bartender though!
