“Lovely hotel lacks service.”

Really nice rooms, food and bar. Service in restaurant very slow, had to wait forty minutes for starters no apologies. Trying to get drinks to your table during dinner near impossible. We were not even offered a wine list. Overall we would go back as it was very clean and worth the money. Just watch out for the church bells give you a heart attack first thing in morning.

The Fitzwilton Hotel in Waterford is a modern, clean and well priced hotel in the heart of the city centre.

I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights and paid €100 per night for 2 people sharing including breakfast.

The hotel is stylish with a nice (maybe a bit small) reception area, bar and resturaunt. Our room was well sized, clean and very comfortable. The room did overlook Bridge Street but to be honest, the noise was not a problem for me and I am a pretty light sleeper. I was woken by a few rowdy hen / stag parties during the night that seems to be the norm everywhere you go these days.

The breakfast was really nice and I though that the staff were exceptional, especially on the front desk.

All in all? A good hotel at a very good price. Well worth it.

my husband's mistake was assuming that a hotel that opened in 2006, describing itself as, "sleek, contemporary" having rooms with plasma tv's would have modern ammenities. WRONG! No a/c, room opened up onto alleyway and when we went to call the desk.... no phone! We packed up and closed the bill- no questions as to why we were not staying for the night we paid for, and left. We have never done that before. Stay elsewhere.

Stayed in this hotel on the 5th and 6th of September (Supervalu Breaks). Found the hotel really nice, nice room and very clean bathroom. We stayed in Room 114 which mostly was very quiet but we did hear people passing at all hours but nothing that kept us awake for too long!! Breakfast and evening meal were lovely, bar food was ok. The bar was very quiet on the friday night so we headed to some of the pubs around waterford. The saturday night was busier as there seemed to be hen and stags staying. Car park very small but we got a space. Just be aware of that. Overall a nice hotel and would stay again.

We stayed in the Fitzwilton just as an overnight break away. It was a nice, clean hotel. The room we had was spacious, comfortable and had 2 double beds. Wireless internet access is free. There was a (small) flat screen tv mounted on one of the walls. Tea and coffee facilites were present. I booked it online and paid a reasonable E99 for bed & breakfast for 2. There was also an option to book for a tenner cheaper without the breakfast, but where would you get a full breakfast for 2 for a tenner! The bathroom was clean and tasteful.
The bar was modern and quite, actually bordering on too quite. There were only 4 people in there, and this was 10 o'clock on a sat night...
While I was generally pleased with the Fitzwilton, I do have some issues.
Firstly the noise, as other reviewers mentioned the hotel is on a side street across the road from the bridge. This side street looks as if its used as a rat run by some traffic to avoid the quays. Even with all the windows and vents closed, the outside noise is quite loud in the room. Of course you've also got church bells across the road...
I was also very lucky to get parking in the hotel car park. Be aware it has quite a limited amount of spaces.
My final gripe is probably unique and a one off. There was an exhibition of pictures hanging from buildings in Waterford during our stay. One of these pictures was hanging on the outside of the hotel blocking out completely the windows on one wall. The hotel website makes a point of the "unique feature of floor to ceiling glass windows offering fantastic views across Waterford City", what we were looking at was the inside of a poster.
Overall it was a nice modern hotel with helpful staff, but if you're a light sleeper give it a miss.

  • Liked — Nothing really stood out, just a nice modern hotel.
  • Disliked — The noise from outside, would make me not go back.

We had two rooms at this hotel in August for 4 days and thought it was lovely. It is in a noisy location as it is on a main road and lorries trundle down the hill all night instead of using the road along the quays. If the rooms were air-conditioned you would not have to open the windows so would have less noise. My tip is to ask for a room overlooking the side street, some have glimpses of the river and are quieter. The local council needs to look in to a night-time ban on lorries in the city centre as some other European cities do and also put a noice restriction on the pub attatched to the Days Inn where all the drunkeness and noise comes from. Apart from this the hotel is modern with large rooms and comfortable beds, flat screen tv and great power showers. I would avoid the disabled rooms if you are able bodied as their is only a shower with barriers that open to accomodate a wheelchair and the water tends to go everywhere.
The food was lovely, no powdereed scrambled eggs, the previous reviewer obviously did not taste them. Yes they are in a mound because there is a very modern hot plate with a dome lid covering them. I would reccomend that the restaurant manager puts everything on the buffet including the coffee/tea as the breakfast staff are not interested in greeting or serving anyone. We ate in the bar every evening as the food was so good and the bar staff were very friendly and attentive. The weather was too wet to go looking for somewhere else around the town but the shopping is good with a lot of British high street names. We went with my elderly mother who absolutely loved this hotel so would reccomend to all age groups.

  • Liked — The bedrooms and Bar and the excellent food.
  • Disliked — The noisy location

second day of trip, stayed in fitzwilton hotel in waterford,

hotel was ok, rooms were very cramped no room to unpack suitcase, car parking was disgraceful, i know it is in the city but the carparking was a multistorey a 2 min walk away from hotel but i didn't think car would be there when we came back, really dodgy area.

breakfast in the morning was ok, normal cereals and then fry if wanted. staff were pleasant enough

when checking out staff were very helpful in giving directions

overall nice hotel but wouldn't recommend it to any friends.
