Just back from a nice break away in Waterford courtesy of a birthday present from family. Hotel is excellent in its appearance . Lobby and bar modern as is dining mroom. Check in was fast and done by a very nice chap. Breakfast and dining experience were first class. Found all staff to be very nice great to see they could answer most queries. Have been to Waterford many times and stayed in other hotels that are not much different than this hotel so is strange to know why it is ranked so low/maybe no pool/but not the only hotel with no pool/its across from bus and rail stations and less than 10 mins walk from centre. All in all verenjoyable stay/keep up the good work and hope to visit again soon.

This Hotel is very close to the railway station. Hence it was ideal for our family as we were travelling by train from Dublin. We found the service to be excellent and the breakfast was great as well. The swimming pool is 10 minutes away by car. Hence we could not avail of it and cannot comment on the same.

We got a fantastic Pigsback deal for the Fitzwilton - unbelievable value for 1 night bed, breakfast and a main course dinner with a glass of wine each. Upon arriving we realised that this hotel is in a very quiet end of town. Just be warned - it's very isolated and a bit deserted with lots of 'adult' stores nearby!
We were checked in and presented with our room key. It had 2 thumb-sized tokens stapled onto it to be given in lieu of payment at dinner. They simply said 'main course and wine dinner'. Easy enough, or so we thought... We took our seats in the bar and i asked for a glass of red wine and a coke. I was served a quarter bottle of Shiraz. We chose sirloin steaks and happily tucked in. After dinner I asked if i could get my companion's wine and pay for the coke (joking about my cheeky suggestion). The waiter immediately said 'oh you are on the deal? You shouldn't have had the quarter bottle of wine you are supposed to get a glass from the house bottle! And you have to pay extra for the steaks, they're not part of the deal!' I was taken aback as i had been given no indication that we had to choose specific items for our dinner.
I asked to speak to the manager. He explained that he was the manager and he said he'd get the hotel supervisor. She arrived and was calm enough, but was adamant that it was my mistake not to have said on my arrival that we were on the 'deal'. I was by now embarrassed as there were other diners in the bar. I had no problem paying extra for the steaks - if there was a supplement - but i had been taken aback that this whole conversation was taking place AFTER we had eaten the food and i had finished my wine!
I paid 14euro in the bar - 7euro each supplement on the steaks and they agreed to waiver the wine. I was left with such a bad taste in my mouth. Not because I expected a steak and wine dinner, but because of how we were treated. If they take Pigsback customers then they should explain to them up front what they can and can't order for their 'main course and wine dinner'. The menu is small but i would have happily chosen something else for dinner if i'd known it would cause a problem!

We booked into this hotel for the viking festival weekend. The hotel advertised free parking on a first come first serve basis. When we tried to enter the car park we were told it was full even though it was only 2.30 in the afternoon. We inquired if spaces would be available later and were told no. On our way out we looked into the car park only to find that there were at least 10 free spaces. We returned to reception and demanded they allow us to park there which they grudgingly did. The hotel appeared to be keeping spaces for others and not adhering to their own advertised policy.
That evening we went to the bar for food. There was a party night on in the hotel and some of the revellers were in having a pre-party drink so the place was busy. We asked the waitress/manager if there would be a table available later to which she replied "you may go elsewhere as we are too busy". We subsequently joined a couple who didn't mind us sharing their table.
Overall our stay at the Fitzwilton wasn't a pleasant one. The staff weren't helpful or welcoming. In fact we were made to feel like an inconvenience. The hotel itself was clean and easy to get to. The food in the bar was fine.

Colleagues and I used the Fitzwilton for a business meeting recently. I didn't book so can't comment on how that process went. We chose it on the basis that it was convenient to the railway station - just a short walk across the bridge - and reasonably priced. Check-in went smoothly and any dealings with the staff went well. They were always polite and attentive. Decor in the foyer and bar is very glamorous but smart and sombre. Tea and coffee brought to the meeting room was good and not of the "left stewing in flasks" variety, so well done on that.
On the downside, our meeting room was obviously a bedroom that had been deemed unfit for that purpose as it is on a busy corner with lots of traffic noise. We finished our meeting and headed down to the bar for a quick lunch, keeping an eye on the time because of our train. While I would have liked the seafood chowder, I was advised against it because of the time needed to prepare it. Fair enough. So I opted for the soup of the day: namely tomato and fennel but tasting like liquidised tinned tomatoes with perhaps some ground fennel seeds. Very disappointing. My colleagues were not impressed by their sandwiches, but liked the generous accompanying portions of potato wedges.

Nice clean hotel wouldn't rate it as a 4 star though. Stains on the carpet in the bedrooms minimal toiletries towels etc... breakfast was satisfactory, smoking area at the front of the hotel which was cleaned once over the 2 days no ashtrays provided. Staff were not friendly or helpful throughout complaining about us going outside to smoke as we had to walk through reception each time. Overall we enjoyed the stay despite this.
