“Beautiful Hotel but bad experience”
Reviewed August 25, 2008

Me and my Boyfriend had arrived at the hotel on Thursday the 21st August and we thought that the hotel was fasinating! We went to sleep that night at about 12.00pm but realised that there was a debs/ball across the road and so the night had been VERY loud and noisy from thumping music to drunken teenagers up untill 4am. On Friday night, it was a typical night where you'd have alot of people out for a few drinks but the noise of people went on untill about 3am. Finally, Staurday night fell and it was quiet enough to open the window in the room (As the rooms get quite heated) but at 2-5am there were drunk and out of control young men from Carlow trying to kick down our door and using a fire extinguiser to knock the door down too so I rang reception to get something done and therefore, the Gardaí were phoned. I will AGAIN say that the hotel was lovely except we did not have any door signs or room service book in our room.

My girlfriend booked this hotel over the phone only to find when we arrived that they didnt have our reservation. Fortunately that had a room for us. The rooms are very clean and modern with flat screen tvs and wired internet access. It is central to the quayside and central shopping area. Arriving for breakfast we found that there was no food ready. Though I dont find myself a picky person, I found the powdered eggs served in a perfect ice cream shaped mound unappealing. The staff were very polite and accomodating. The next day we got a call asking why we didnt show up and that we might be charged. Fortunately we got this sorted straight away.

Stayed 2 nights at the Fitzwilton hotel. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. It is well located in terms of easy access to the quay and straight walk down o'connell st which is opposite the hotel to the main shopping area. The hotel is modern and has an attractive chic bar which unfortunately on the Thursday night was deserted at 10.30pm. The room was good with both a double and single bed. Only criticism of the bathroom is that the shower is over the bath rather than a walk in shower however everything worked well. The room was warm and similar to other guests if you open the window the hotel fronts onto a busy thoroughfare which is very noisy at peak times. The breakfast was fairly typical in term of cereal, toast, yoghurt and hot food buffet. I think it's always nice to be able to order an individual hot dish eg poached egg on toast but that is the only criticism. We did not eat in the restaurant having read mixed reviews however we were recommended by a local a french restaurant "bodega"on john's street which is about 15 mins walk away and it was excellent both by way of food and atmosphere. It is very busy so booking is recommended although I was able to book that day for that evening. In summary this is a good modern hotel with pleasant staff which I would stay in again.

My family and I spent 10 days in Ireland and they all really enjoyed this hotel. My family probably really enjoyed the Fitzwilton because we were staying at B&B's for most of the trip and the Fitzwilton is a hotel. The hotel was contemporay and sleek. It reminds me of a Hilton or Marriott. Parking can be a little difficult because you are not guaranteed a spot in the hotel's lot. We stayed on a Friday night and there were a lot bachelor and bachlorette parties which made the halls rowdy after hours (5 am.)

Stayed her for a wknd. Lovely rooms and in a great central location, everything within walking distance. Only problems was there was very little parking and no leisure facilities. As we were leaving we saw a huge sign for their new lesiure centre opening the following year! Food wasn't bad but we got no veg with our meal which was strange. Might be worth another visit!

Probably a bit overrated at 4 stars - I would give it about 3.5. Always seems to be reasonably priced - E59 a room for our stay. Clean and comfortable with rather small rooms. Free parking below, but the parking spaces were designed for minis and it would scare me to park anything larger than the tiny car we were in. As it was late and wet we ate at Dish, the restaurant on the premises. That was a disaster but we were given a generous discount on the meal without asking so they did their best. I would recommend this for a relatively economical place to stay in Waterford.

The hotel was very chic and modern. Great location just a few minutes walk from John Roberts Square. Very modern bar with great food. Definitely best hotel in Waterford. Only open a year or so. We will be back!
