“Comfortable well situated hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

hotel was very good but bar food was poor standard and represented poor value for money. The hotel was very clean. The reception staff were helpful. The breakfast was good. Parking was provided free. WIFi was free and reasonable quality. The room was good size warm clean and comfortable. The bar food was disappointing. The breakfast was good.

Room Tip: Try the Gingerman pub down the town for good quality and good value food.

The Fitzwilton has seen better days. The interior is chipped and stained, cheap materials. The family room had no fridge, just an extra bed in a normal room. The staff did not replace tea and milk over night. The breakfast was of poor quality and taste. The staff were efficient but abrupt.

It is not a 4 star hotel, a 3 star at best.

It is clean, quiet and well located in Waterford city. The price was fine.

We stayed here a few years back and it was much better then.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back have no view but are quiet.

The hotel is situated only two minutes walk from shops, bars and restaurants, and has it's own free car park. The food in the restaurant is very good and everywhere was clean with friendly, helpful staff.

The bar area was disappointing and set out like a New York diner with plastic chairs and benches. Our room was quite small and dark, with little storage space (no drawers at all); and there was no-where to blow dry hair near a mirror. There was a mirror in a strange place down the side of the wardrobe!!!! The bathroom was OK, but the shower was too high to reach and there was no face cloth! Unfortunately the bed was terrible - it creaked when we moved and shook when one of us turned over. There was a small TV on the wall.

Room Tip: I would recommend upgrading your room which could be better than the one allocated to us.

Dear Halfy,

Thank you for visiting the Fitzwilton Hotel. I am pleased to see our very central location was to your benefit. I will happily pass your kind words to our kitchen and also to our very friendly staff.
I am sorry to see tha bar was not to your satisfaction. I can assure you, the booths and chairs are in fact real leather and not plastic. I regret to see also that your room was clearly not to your expectation for which I apologise. We are often complimented on how comfortable our rooms and beds are so am sorry to see your room was not to our usual high standards. As a 4* property all of our rooms need to be of a certain size which we exceed in all rooms.
Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your visit with us and we hope to welcome you again soon to the Fitzwilton Hotel.

Kindest Regards,

Geoff Dawson

We came upon the Fitzwilton Hotel via booking.com and we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. They provided great advice on what to do in the city and were helpful in all matters.

The bar was cozy and even attracted locals. There was a small parking lot, but we got a space and it was free. The wifi worked well and the rooms were clean, big (for Irish standards, but not by American) and modern.

Stayed here for NYE . Car park is small but was lucky to get a spot. The rooms are decent. Comfortable beds , clean room. Can't ask for much more. Got breakfast to the room next morning.arranged for it to arrive between 930 -10am. Got woke with a phone call saying our breakfast was outside our room at 920am. Went outside and it was there but was a little cold. We wanted breakfast late as we were up late night before as it was NYE. A group across the way from us were very noisy during the night having a party in their room which kept us up even later. But that is not the hotels fault..
If i come to Waterford again I would have no hesitation staying here

Hi Darragh,

thank you for taking the time to review the 4* Fitzwilton Hotel in Waterford. We do have free on-site parking which can be limited at peak periods such as New Years Eve. However, I am happy you were accommodated and found a space ok. Sorry to read of the mix up with your breakfast and also of the noise disturbance you experienced. We do have staff patrolling the corriders throughout the night to counter such issues should they occur so apologies if this was not rectified quickly. It is not a problem we face often.
I am delighted you would have no hesitation staying with us again and hopefully you will get to visit Waterford City again soon.

Thanks again for your kind words.

Geoff Dawson

We decided to head down to winterfest and opted to still over. The hotel was lovely I could not fault anything from the moment we walked into a very friendly receptionist. She was happy to give us a map to head off around to town with and told us all about the facilities within the hotel.
We opted to eat in the bar and I must say we met the nicest lad working in the bar. We had two starters ribs and goat tart tart was a little dry but still nice for main we had two steaks again lovely really nice quality. We had a nice bottle of house red and it came to about €70. We will defiantly go back again in the summer.

This hotel is very modern, and when you walk in the door you will understand why its four star. We stayed for two nights in a spacious, warming double room. The bed sheets were Egyptian Cotton- it was so comfortable!!
We eat a three course meal at the Chez-K restaurant which was scrumptious, this usually prices at around 24euro pp. Despite the lovely food and service at dinner, breakfast was a disappointment as there was only one waitress working and also a bland selection of food to choose from.
The shopping centre is a five minute walk away which can be pleasant if you walk along the quays. Also, there is no leisure centre for thos of you that love a swim.
We really enjoyed our luxurious stay at the fitzwilton, i would recommend it for couples or corporate.

Dear Emily,

Thank you for staying at the Fitzwilton Hotel and also for sharing your experience. I am delighted you enjoyed the ample space of our double rooms and that you found the facilities so comfortable. I will be happy to pass your kind words of your scrumptious meal to our kitchen team also, I am sorry to see breakfast was not as satisfactory for you as we have a set standard of products that are displayed every morning, so I am sorry of this had not been replenished. It is great to see you enjoyed your visit and thank you for recommending us also.
