Stayed here with my hubby and teenage daughter for two nights. When we arrived to check in...even though booking made in May..well we were not on the checking in list :-/. Thanks to Louise she got us sorted and provided a complimentary bottle of wine for the upset and delay caused. This was a very welcome touch and left us with positive feelings towards the hotel in general. The rooms were clean and bright. The beds were very comfortable. Plenty of hot water...not a great power shower but did what was needed. Breakfast was usual buffet with good selection, well topped up. We ate in the bar the first evening and the food was lovely...so much that my daughter wanted to return there the following evening...which we did and enjoyed as much. The outstanding thing in the hotel is the staff..they make the place. They were all so friendly and helpful. A huge asset to the hotel. On the downside..located s bit outside the town, no onsite leisure centre and the food finishes in the bar at 9.00pm. We saw people getting turned away on both evenings...a pity really and maybe an area that could be addressed by management. There was entertainment on in hotel on the Friday night....it was not to our taste...but you can not please everyone....we had a good laugh :-). Overall we enjoyed our stay would recommend and would stay again. Great value and very friendly staff.

We were staying at the Travelodge nearby but their diner had burnt down so we went into the Viking for a meal in the Asgard Bar. Big mistake :-(

There was a match on TV between Waterford and someone (Kilkenny?) and after we had sat down and ordered half the bar was screaming at the TV.
The drinks arrived quickly but 40 minutes after ordering no sign of our meals so I went to ask.

'There's a problem in the kitchen' said the waitress. I said I wish she had told us there might be a delay.
She disappeared and about 10 minutes later our meals appeared - cue anger from a nearby table who had been there longer than us and who had ordered before us and not been served....

The waitress needed to bring me my bowl of chips and off she went..... 5 minutes later I went to find her to ask precisely how long it took to fetch a bowl of chips.
She was serving someone else's meal!!! :-O

When she saw me she clapped her hand over her mouth and said 'Oh I forgot' and rushed off and reappeared a few minutes later with my chips. (The steak was almost eaten by then)

I went to pay the bill and I told the girl it was the worst service we had had in a VERY long time. She said 'there's a problem with the deep fat fryer' <sigh>

She didn't offer to reduce the bill for the poor slow service so I declined to leave a gratuity which is something I cannot recall doing in the last 20 years or so.

Sorry Viking hotel this was AWFUL and we certainly wouldn't recommend you to anyone and nor will we return when we are over in Ireland next year.

A very poor show.

Stayed here as a stopover - just somewhere to sleep more than anything. Hotel was clean, our room was quiet, kettle and a hot shower...didn't need anything else. The staff were so helpful....nothing was too much trouble and all so friendly and smiley. We didn't stay for breakfast as we were in a rush, but it looked a great set-up with plenty of choice.

1) This hotel was clean and comfortable. The beds were soft and comfy and the room wasn't too warm which was good considering the temperatures got up into the 30s.

2) The major downside was that is a good distance out from the town. I knew it was roughly 5 km to the town and thought it would at least be walk-able, even if only on the way into town, but the road is country road with no path or motorway. I should have, looked on googlemaps before booking, because it;s in the middle of an industrial estate. So it really wasn't suitable to walk at all. I wasn't driving but I heard quite a few people say that getting parking in the town center was hard. If you plan on drinking then you need to use taxis. It cost us between 10 and 13 Euro each way.

3) We enjoyed a nice breakfast. Good fry up but we were some of the lucky ones.Breakfast on the weekends is until 11am. We managed to get down about 10am and it was busy. Our friends however were furious. they got down to breakfast about 10.20am and everything was gone and the staff didn't refill the hot foods. If a hotel is going to offer a late breakfast, and knew the hotel was fully booked they should have had enough breakfast on. I'd understand if people were turning up at 10.45/10.50am etc but over a half hour before - there should have been more food. We had to ask about 5 times for a pot of tea and were half way through our breakfast before we got any. I have to say - it wasn't the staffs problem, they were run off their feet. It was the managements issue because there clearly wasn't enough staff on.

4) The bar was ok, pretty plain but grand as a late residents bar. Bar staff were friendly and helpful.

Looking at other reviews, the hotel tend to reply and ignore any negative comments and pick up the positive - which no doubt they will do here!! ***** But overall - hotel is good for a stop off point for travelers but if you are down to go to the pubs in Waterford and to explore the city - possibly not the wisest choice. For the money you save on accommodation you will spend on taxis.

Room Tip: The ground floor rooms were cooler in very hot weather

We bought a 2 night B&B deal for this hotel. We got a family room which was huge, spotless and extremely comfortable. The staff were lovely. The bar food was top class and very reasonably priced! Of course the fabulous weather really topped off a great stay. This is the first time I have taken the time to write a review but felt I should as we were so impressed with this hotel. The B&B offer is on pigsback.com again today so I'm off now to book another stay!

We went here with a voucher from pigsback. it was a two nights stay with a bottle of wine on arrival. The room was nice and clean. The bar food is absolutely fantastic. I had a half portion of salmon and it was massive thank god I didn't order a large. The bar itself is a good size and the drink prices are reasonable. The only downside is how far it is away from the town.. you definately would need a taxi (and also if your going to dinner in town make a reservation). The breakfast was standard nothing special but good enough. All in all I enjoyed my stay!

We bought a deal for this hotel and it turned out to be great value
The location is a bit out of town but it suited us perfectly as we were heading for Cork the next morning.
It was really nice to be greeted by a pleasant and chatty receptionist. She checked us in and told us where everything was. Our room was nice, perfectly clean and the beds were comfy.
We had our food in the bar. Everyone was happy with what they got especially the other half who is a bit fussy where meals are concerned, he was happy that he got exactly what he wanted to eat. The bar staff were very pleasant and the only complaint was that service was just a little slow, no big deal though.
We enjoyed the music in the bar, good fun
Breakfast next morning was lovely, plenty of everything and a great choice.
We would have no hesitation in staying here again
