Treacys Hotel Waterford
Ranked #10 of 12 Hotels in Waterford
Reviewed July 6, 2011

we stayed 4 nights for Tall Ships 2011
Hotel was full as was Waterford with over 500,000 visitors
we could not fault this Hotel in any way.
We had a river facing room even watched the fireworks from our room !!
despite a room directly over the bar being part of the Bulmers live music trail
we experienced no noise !!
The room was spotless , very comfortable.
The restaurant clean, food excellent as was the service !!
our group even had a discounted menu .
The carvery on offer was a free for all but with the amount of visitors this was to be expected . The buffet breakfast was value for money & no queuing .
The staff worked very hard over this event to keep the hotel clean & tidy
and still kept smiling .
The Leisure centre Pool ,sauna , Jacuzzi immaculately clean very efficient staff & easy to find !
I was very apprehensive after reading some of the reviews on this site !!!
But the hotel i stayed in deserves to be given the credit it deserves .
Well done & thank you for a very pleasant stay .
I can highly recommend this Hotel

Room Tip: well positioned

Very loud at nights - and street noise means opening the window not an option.

Breakfast was like rush hour in a canteen. Guest queues for 10 minutes in self-service "buffet", and the food wasn't tasty enough to compensate. No pastries, fish, cheese, fruit.

Dinner menu was changed from the version advertised at 12pm. Food was like a bad carvery. Waitress didn't even know what vegetables were on offer.

TV channel choice was good, but didn't have TV3. Reckon they are picking up a UK signal on satellite.

Bar full of folk keen on a drinking weekend. Sing song already underway at 4pm - led by 60+ women. As a result, bar staff were busy and guests expected to queue for a few minutes to get a drink.

Location is good for the train station, but off the beaten track for everything else.

Staff nice to be fair, but would need a training course if they were to work in a good hotel.

Stayed one night. Room was fine, v average. The whole " leisure centre" is a bit of a joke. You have to meander through halls to get there and it's a v small pool. It was fine for a swim though (although the changing rooms were freezing). The staff were friendly but the hotel had a bit of a deserted feel about it. I didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. Overall, served a purpose but I wouldn't pick it if you were holidaying or anything!

The location is good and if you park in the carpark across the rd (5 euro) the parking is also pretty ok. Staff on the whole were friendly though front desk staff desperately slow. The building itself is just not fit for purpose anymore the floorboards are noisy, the carpet is stained, the doors in the rooms do not feel safe, the windows tiny my room stank of smoke despite being a 'non smoking'. bathroom soap etc= joke two cheap plastic tubs of soap (didn't smell it couldn't face it) attached to the wall with rusting iron bars - i've never been in prison but I'm guessing this is what the older ones must be like. the noise is unvelieveable I could literally hear the tv in the room beside me so I had to sleep in the pattern of the room beside me - alseep at 12 and awake at 6am. breakfast bland and cheap - in fact if I was to sum this place up it is that everything is done on the cheap that much is obvious. I travel a lot this is the worst ever. the management should note that whilst making savings is the way to go in this economy you will drive customers away with such obvious corner cutting. There were coach loads of tourists at the hotel and I wanted to announce to them 'please do not judge all Irish hotels by this place' frankly I was embarrassed. There atre viable business models that this chain could undertake without insulting paying guests with such a shocking lack of investment and obvious desire to spin as much out of the aging building without investing anything in return. I understand some sort of planning permission has been applied for so perhaps they are just winding down this business - but in a word this is a shocking place.

the location of the hotel is great and the staff are helpful and friendly. Found the double room a bit small and could hear next door neighbours tv, banging doors etc. you could also hear people going to and from the lift which was very loud, the walls are like paper.
also parking is about 3 to 4 mins walk away which is not nice if it is raining.

Room Tip: if you have a lot of luggage get bigger room.

Arrived at the hotel easter sunday evening, found the receptionist friendly. We arrived in time to make the pool, had a bit of trouble finding it but when we did it was well worth it. Lovely jaccuzi(for me) and the kids enjoyed the pool.
The room was quite warm, but there was 5 of us in it, and the proter gave us a fan whih was a great help. We went to Tramore on easter monday, the place was packed, great to see Irish people enjoying their own country in the glourious weather. Only down fall is the amusements can cost a fortune.
That night we left our 3 children in the kids club. This was the highlight of their trip and the clinching point that will make us return in the summer. I dont usually use kids clubs in hotels but all of our really enjoyed it.
All in all a good hotel and reasonalbly priced.

Room Tip: Great for families
