“A Must See Destination for Garden Lovers”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Mount Congreve is sensational and the head gardener gave the most interesting and informational tour. You'll see giant specimens of trees and rhododendrons, fabulous plantings and beautiful perennials inside a walled garden.

“Fantastic!”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Mount Congreve is famous for being the home of one of “the great gardens of the world”. A visit to the gardens is fabulous way to spend a few hours. They are located 5 -10 minutes drive outside Waterford City. It takes about 2 hours to walk around on well laid out trails where you will see a gorgeous array of flowers, trees, plants, streams and waterfalls.

They have only recently been opened to the public and are currently open every Thursday and on occasional weekends: you might need to check their facebook page to be sure https://www.facebook.com/Mountcongreve. They are free entry but it costs €5 per car if you wish to park. This is a small but necessary charge to meet the costs of ensuring that the public can enjoy these incredible gardens, as the late Ambrose Congreve wished.

“Glorious Gardens”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

I first visited these gardens as a child many years ago. I continue to return and to let friends know the treasure that is this oasis. I am sure you will love it also. I've also been to Exbury and apparently there are links. I understand Mount Congreve emulates many of the features of the famous Exbury Gardens, an ancestral home of the Rothschild family. Apparently Ambrose Congreve, the recently deceased former owner of Mount Congreve spent some formative years at Exbury in Hampshire UK. Both have mature magnolias and climbing shrubbery however the train-line at Mount Congreve runs outside the perimeter along a previously abandoned mainline which linkind the southeastern region of southern Ireland. Additionally the river at this point and rural views over Waterford and part of Kilkenny are awesome.

The gardens at Mount Congreve have a memorial stone on a plinth overlooking the pond. From memory the pond is home to small quirky structure on mini Island! Clematis plantings, vigorously climbed the mature trees and blended well when in bloom, with the flowering Magnolias. It’s a wonderful spot for a day out, something for everyone, good pathways leading to all sorts of pleasure. Check out the walled garden a separate adventure!
Enjoy. Thomas Dempsey PS:I saw this note and thought it might be useful :~) TD
The gardens are open to the public on Thursdays, between the hours of 9.00 am to 4.00 pm, April 5th to September 27th inclusive.
The gardens will also be open to adults and children on Saturday the 21st and Sunday the 22nd September . Admission will be €5 per car
