“Quality Food and Pleasant for children”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

I had stopped eating out in Waterford until I came across this place. The restaurant is spacious, open with a lovely calming, contemporary décor and soft classical music in the background. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is well priced and has a bit of quality to it. There is a lovely play area for the children and a stack of daily newspapers so you can sit and have a coffee after lunch. Bliss..............

I am a mum of 2 children under 5 and I find it a nightmare to find a place to eat where the food is edible and I don't feel like a hindrance with my off spring and buggy. This place is welcoming and comfortable. but above all has really lovely food. I really recommend any one to give it a visit. I breath of fresh air I do think.

“Some nice touches but overpriced”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

Have been three times now and there are some nice ideas, like bringing a jug of water, cute milk jugs. However service can be hit or miss. there is a wide breakfast menu but some of the items are overpriced for what you get. their rhubarb lemonade is different and tasty.th decor is nice but in the end it is back to Kylemore for decent mugs of coffee with breakfast and a guaranteed smile from staff

Dear Fionnuala
Thank you for your review. We are happy to hear you enjoyed aspects of the café. We are very sorry to hear that the service you received was hit and miss and we have worked on this in training.

In relation to Kylemore our 10oz cup is the same size as their standard 10oz mug, they do have larger mugs for which there is an extra charge listed. As their menu is self-service it is difficult to compare prices, but our menus do overlap to some respect and obviously there are going to be instances where one is more expensive than the other. For example; we charge €1.25 for either 2 slices of bacon or 2 sausages and in Kylemore the price is €0.95 more expensive at €2.20. For the equivalent of our Mini or Full Breakfast Kylemore would appear to charge an extra €0.81 and €1.44 respectively. There appear to be several other instances where we are substantially cheaper, but in their defence there are also just as many instances where Kylemore are cheaper than us, for example Kylemore Scones are €0.30 cheaper than our Homemade Scones. The fact that we are cheaper than Kylemore for anything came to us as a pleasant surprise considering the quality of ingredients we use.

Thank you for drawing this to our attention and we hope that you will visit us again!

“Best full Irish Breakfast”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Had the best cooked full Irish breakfast in a long time, fast, tasty & good value for money, will be back.
Did order coffee instead of tea, got a fresh Americano which was fine, but cup too small, had to reorder another half way through breakfast - a coffee pot would have been ideal

“Overpriced and greasy spoon quality!!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I decided to dine there for lunch today for the first time since it changed management. My partner wished to get a late breakfast which finished at 12 noon. However, since it was 2 minutes past 12 he was refused. The waitress brought our knives & forks over on a dirty tray. I opted for the roast chicken with "creamy mash". What I got was chip shop style chicken with stodgy and a very bad markedly of veg for the dish. My partner received the fish and chips again of low quality. The chips were skinny pale and limp and the fish was full of grease. His dish was accompanied by a pea purée which retained the shape of the dish it was in when he turned it out on the plate. Needless to say microwaved!!

I won't be returning here again!! As they say you learn from your mistakes!

Dear Sarah

Thank you for your review - our recollection of events was that it was much later into lunch and we offered your partner several other options from the breakfast that we could still facilitate which he declined. We now have added an all day breakfast sandwich which has received excellent customer feedback which your partner may like to try next time.

I assure you that all our produce is sourced from quality suppliers and the fish was supplied by SeaTrade in Dunmore East.

Our new Head Chef has made some exciting changes to the menu which may be more to your satisfaction and we hope you will give us another try.

“won't be rushing back-disappointed”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

dying to visit no. 9 especially to taste Paul powers food once again. Although only open a few weeks, Paul appears to be gone! alarm bells... Interior is warm but empty picture frames do nothing to give character to the interior. For families with buggies & toddlers the kids area is wonderful, the children's menu is also very good but a kids sandwich option & small soup would be wise. The chips were very pale & limp.Soup was delicious. The kids minerals were not coke, sprite & diet coke as listed on menu but a cheap alternative. The waitress seemed unhappy to give us the wifi code, it didn't work when she scribbled it out for us. Very nice to be served a jug of water at the beginning without asking. please improve on the little things and don't try to be too artisan-we need no.9 to stay the course.

Dear Optician Waterford

Thank you for your review - We only serve Coca-Cola products, all our equipment is serviced and maintained by Coca-Cola and following your comments we asked them to inspect the equipment again and they found no problems. While they found no problems we personally feel the quality has now improved. The waitress recalls your visit and assures us that there was no issue with giving you the code, we usually have it typed out for customers but they were all gone and she may have been under pressure to find them. We will soon have an eircom wifi hub offering free unlimited downloads. We have tried various styles of chips and having heard loads of feedback we have now settled on the chip that the majority of customers preferred and we hope you enjoy it.

Paul has left us in great stead, we have an excellent team in the kitchen and our new Head Chef has made some exciting changes to the menu which I hope you will enjoy on your next visit.
