This excellent museum is in the center of Waterford on Merchants Quay overlooking the river. The building also houses the visitors center and an excellent cafe. It is in the original Waterford Crystal building from the 19th century.
The museum has many historical artifacts, charters, scrolls, clothing, etc. covering the history of the area from the Vikings to the present. It is done with an audio guide, films, dramatizations. There is a wealth of information. It was raining very hard when we were in the area and this was the perfect place to be inside and spend a few hours. We had a buy one, get one free from an Ireland discount book and they gave us the senior rate.
If you have a car, you can park across the street in a number of large lots--one is an all day lot, another you can pay on an hourly basis. FYI--the Waterford Crystal plant is not in the area, so if you have a car, you have to drive to it. Reginald's Tower, another historic attraction, is a few blocks away and an easy walk.
