Owner description: The magnificent curved facade of the warm butter-coloured stone building draws in the visitor. The eye-catching giant sculpture on the gable was inspired by a tiny 13th century belt mount found in Waterford. It is Ireland’s only purpose-built medieval museum and the only building on the island to incorporate two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th century Mayor’s Wine Vault. Don't miss the stunning Heavens' Embroidered Cloths, Waterford's cloth-of-gold 15th century vestments, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII's reign to survive in the world - the 'Cap of Maintenance' and the Great Charter Roll from 1373, containing the earliest contemporary portrait of a medieval English king (Edward III) shown to Queen Elizabeth on her 2011 state visit to Ireland. These and many more unique artefacts await you on your guided tour of the award wining Medieval Museum.

We enjoyed the self guided tour. I just wished there was even more. It was set up so kids would really enjoy the museum. All in all it did give a great view of what Waterford had been and how it changed over the years. For kids they have activities , dress up, and more.

The medieval vestments are any amazing treasure. Well worth the visit....even though I am not crazy about dioramas in museums and there are lots of them here, some were done quite well and gave a good sense of Waterford's unique history.

The newly opened Waterford Treasures Medieval Museum was open during Culture night and we attended to avail of one of the tours. The excellent guided tour brings you though the history of Waterford. I had been to many exhibits over the years but I learned a lot during this tour. The reconstructed overviews of the city are excellent and you can picture where certain parts of the modern city have changed over the years.
Definitely a recommended stop for any tourist in Waterford, but locals may also learn something about this great city also.

A fascinating smallish museum which really taught us a lot about the history of Waterford. The audio units provided were a bit strange and did not really add to the experience but if you can read they were not really necessary.
