Owner description: The magnificent curved facade of the warm butter-coloured stone building draws in the visitor. The eye-catching giant sculpture on the gable was inspired by a tiny 13th century belt mount found in Waterford. It is Ireland’s only purpose-built medieval museum and the only building on the island to incorporate two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers’ Hall and the 15th century Mayor’s Wine Vault. Don't miss the stunning Heavens' Embroidered Cloths, Waterford's cloth-of-gold 15th century vestments, the only piece of clothing from King Henry VIII's reign to survive in the world - the 'Cap of Maintenance' and the Great Charter Roll from 1373, containing the earliest contemporary portrait of a medieval English king (Edward III) shown to Queen Elizabeth on her 2011 state visit to Ireland. These and many more unique artefacts await you on your guided tour of the award wining Medieval Museum.

“Waterford's medieval past”

Top class! We thoroughly enjoyed visiting the new museum in Cathedral Square - the building is stunning, inside and out, and the exhibition is phenomenal. Plus its location in the centre of Waterford's Viking Triangle is highly picturesque and right at the heart of the city, as well as immediately adjacent to the other main attractions like Waterford Crystal and the Bishop's Palace. I really really cannot recommend this highly enough; even for those not normally interested in medieval history!

“Interesting and helpful staff”

Really interesting museum with all the exhibitions presented really well and tour guides available also. Really helpful staff and a nice gift shop too. One of the best museums I have visited in Ireland. It is not very expensive but they do special free days and coupons for free entry too.

“Well worth a visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2013

If you want to find out about Waterford's fasinating history this museum is well worth the visit.

We were given our audio guides and spent about 40 minutes making our way through the musuem. Once inside there are two short films you can watch and many wonderful artefacts to view as you step back in time and find out about the city's past.

All of the displays are impressive, especially the Great Charter Roll and the wonderful set of vestments from the 15th Century. The price is very reasonable and we bought a combined ticket which included a visit of the nearly Bishop's Palace.

Certainly well worth the trip!

“New Building, New Tour, Same Fantastic History”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 10, 2012

No Longer At The Granary....Waterford Museum of Treasures has a new home and is in desperate need of an update on here. Now Situated between Cathedral Square and the Bishop's Palace in an architecturally superb structure, this newly dedicated museum to Medieval Waterford is excellent. Carefully built over preserved medieval structures and its walls, the Museum opened to the public on Friday 24th August 2012. Tickets can be purchased to experience the whole package if you like including the Viking history at Reginald's Tower and around the corner at Bishops Palace where you can get a solid look at Georgian Waterford, the city of John Roberts its famous architect. Having visited the other museums in the past which have maintained their residence, I opted for the newer tour at the Medieval Museum and found the guided historical review excellent. The displays are world class and it is very easy to become consumed with the fabulous history that Waterford provided to the ages. You will depart the museum with a different state of mind on this storied small Irish city. The amazing Chorister's Hall is where the tour begins in the subterranean remains of the city and gathers steam as you rise up into the new structure containing some (deadly) serious artifacts displayed elegantly and lit in a determined manner befitting the subject. Ticket prices are very reasonable for expectations and a gift and mementos shop carries the effects you may expect for the venue including Medieval Armour that while not cheap was surprisingly not all that dear...although you will not be able to wear it home...Its real and its heavy.

“Great well worth a trip!”

We had Derek as a guide in the museum and he was great. It was very interesting and the original wall etc were fantastic. Bring a camera as you will get some great pictures. Kids under 12 are free and adults are 5. Well worth the money. Over a hours entertainment and educational but fun.
