Owner description: The Bishop’s Palace Museum houses a display of Waterford treasures from 1700 to the 20th Century, and gives visitors a wonderful insight into the history of what was, up until the 1750s, Ireland’s second city. 'The Mall is a beautiful walk, about 200 yards long… facing it stands the Bishop’s Palace, which not only adds a considerable beauty ... the Palace is a fine building of hewn stone, with two fronts, that next to the Mall is beautifully ornamented with a handsome portico.' (Charles Smith’s History, 1746)' This exquisite architectural jewel, now a museum, continues to delight over 250 years later, the ground and first floors furnished as a very elegant 18th century townhouse. The top floor brings 'old' Waterford alive from the 1900's to the 1960's.

Decided to make the trip on my own while I was on a weeks annual leave from my job. I always make a promise to myself to go somewhere that I have never been before. This time i did not have to travel too far. This time it was to Waterford City to the beautiful Bishops Palace, recently restored and now a magnificent building on the Mall, right in the City - now part of the Heritage Triangle - directly opposite (the new) Waterford Crystal and showrooms. Storyteller/guide was excellent. Each floor is dedicated to a particular era of history. Certainly learnt a lot about Waterford and it's environs, which I had not know previously. Living here for the past 35 years and delighted that i took the opportunity to experience this and opened up my eyes to more of Waterford's exciting and important past, wonderful history and stories from bygone eras. Well worth the visit - even for locals!!

Thank Patricia L

Bishop's Palace, is in the Heart of Waterford City, in the area known as , The Viking Triangle'.
On the doorstep is The Medieval Museum and directly across the road (the Mall) is Waterford Crystal.
Bishop's palace is a great visit if you want to know the history of Waterford and what life was like in the era that the palace is well known for.
The tour is alive , in that you become witness to the events of the era.
The Characters are portrayed so well, by local actors, and having witnessed myself the content, I can say, it is Fabulous!
I have brought many visitors here, from Family to friends, to friends from America & Australia, and they all say the same thing,
'It has to be seen to be believed'.

The guide was very knowledgeable and interesting however overall i was a little under-whelmed and felt this place didn't merit charging any admission fee (albeit it was only a fiver each)

This was our final stop in Waterford and it was a good one! We took the tour guided by actors in period costume. Although you can tour the entire museum on your own, the guided tour really brings it to life! The actors play their roles wonderfully, making you feel like you are part of a conversation, smoothly flowing between descriptions of artifacts, examples of events of the period, and a good dash of humor. The guided tour takes in the first and second floors. You are the free to explore the third floor on your own. This includes many great exhibits on a variety of subjects, from wars to religion to radio and television to everyday life. You can also revisit the first two floors at your own pace. A great museum! Well worth a visit!
