Owner description: The Bishop’s Palace Museum houses a display of Waterford treasures from 1700 to the 20th Century, and gives visitors a wonderful insight into the history of what was, up until the 1750s, Ireland’s second city. 'The Mall is a beautiful walk, about 200 yards long… facing it stands the Bishop’s Palace, which not only adds a considerable beauty ... the Palace is a fine building of hewn stone, with two fronts, that next to the Mall is beautifully ornamented with a handsome portico.' (Charles Smith’s History, 1746)' This exquisite architectural jewel, now a museum, continues to delight over 250 years later, the ground and first floors furnished as a very elegant 18th century townhouse. The top floor brings 'old' Waterford alive from the 1900's to the 1960's.

18th-20th century is the bit that I liked with old photos of the way Waterford used to be, through the independence years to the modern age and showing the furniture and settings of that era and here there seems to be something for everyone as while furniture wouldn't catch my interest, the old photos, weapons, and other aspects do, so there seems to be something for everyone - Coming out of this museum, you will have seen some fascinating items of interest to you to stoke your fires

Located right next to the museum and across from Waterford crystal , this Georgian home is very interesting to visit and we used the headphone guide to go around .
Save money by buying joint ticket to Palace and Museum .

This is a 'must see' when visiting Waterford. A fabuolous building explained in a wonderfully inovative way. (I won't spoil the surprise)
Afterwards the cafe is the second most 'must experience' in Waterford!!

Very good value for money , quite modern approach and the staff were friendly and helpful . We didn't wait for the guided tour which was no extra cost and the only disappointment was the café being " closed for the day " at 4-30pm ( and had been closed for some time it would seem ) . Parking in the adjacent Bolton Street car park was only €1 per hour .

The Bishop's Palace tour is conducted by actors attired in period dress who interact with those on the tour to provide insight as to the everyday day life of people in service positions as well as those for whom that service was provided. The palace has numerous antique furnishings and portraits of several influential and notable people who had an impact on local as well as Irish and British history in general covering parts of 2 centuries. Very well presented!
