Owner description: The Bishop’s Palace Museum houses a display of Waterford treasures from 1700 to the 20th Century, and gives visitors a wonderful insight into the history of what was, up until the 1750s, Ireland’s second city. 'The Mall is a beautiful walk, about 200 yards long… facing it stands the Bishop’s Palace, which not only adds a considerable beauty ... the Palace is a fine building of hewn stone, with two fronts, that next to the Mall is beautifully ornamented with a handsome portico.' (Charles Smith’s History, 1746)' This exquisite architectural jewel, now a museum, continues to delight over 250 years later, the ground and first floors furnished as a very elegant 18th century townhouse. The top floor brings 'old' Waterford alive from the 1900's to the 1960's.

The palace has regular tours throughout the day guided by characters from its past in full costume. The guides have a real passion for the history of the palace and Waterford itself and are informative and funny - they really bring the place alive.

All the palace needs to do to get 5 stars is to make sure all exhibits are labelled - some pictures and exhibits have no identification at all.

The palace has a tea room which I didn't visit but the smells at lunch time made me think I should, I'll definitely try it out next time because its in a beautiful Georgian room.

Visited the bishops palace in Waterford and took the guided tour. All I can say is Wow.
Guides were in character and were great, the butler Derrick was just a great guide, knowledgable of the history and a really class act when it came to customer service. He stayed behind with us and chatted after and made us all feel so special. All I can say is well done Waterford.

This building has a lot of character and walks you though Georgian Waterford suprisingly up to the show band era. Who knew so many showbands and singers were from Waterford?

Had a couple of hours to kill before the next train to Dublin. I was delighted that I decided to spend them visiting the Bishop's Palace. Previously I had visited the very impressive nearby cathedral. The audio tour was well presented and informative once you got over the phoney accent of the " Housekeeper " which was just irritating.I could have spent all day here. I mentioned this to the delightful lady called Shirly at reception and she gave me a complimentary re entry voucher. Another reason to return to Waterford. Be sure not to miss the attic contemporary Irish history section going back to early 1900's; also quite impressive.
