Owner description: Originally founded by George and William Penrose in 1783, Waterford crystal is world-renowned for quality and beauty. Have you seen someone blow molten crystal into a vase? Check out the factory tour. Visitors are guided through the factory to see experienced craftsmen at work, creating new crystal pieces. The factory is open to tours, contact the company for details.

We toured the factory on June 16, 2012 and although Waterford Crystal no longer exists as it was, they continue to turn out extraordinary special and commissioned pieces. The area we toured was thoughtfully designed to give tourists a close-up but safe view of the process of creating crystal. Dermot, our guide was friendly and knowledgable. You can also take photographs of the artisans at work and ask then questions.

Glad we took this tour. Found the whole process of producing cut crystal fasinating. You really get an upclose and personal feel. You can talk to the master craftsmen as they work on their crystal pieces. Good place to go on a rainy day.

A tour through the Waterford Crystal factory is an interesting and educative experience. We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the history and seeing the craftsmen in action.

The tour ends up in the show room - but don't fear! There is no pressure to buy. In fact, we wanted to buy several items and the whole process took so long I almost told them to forget about the order!

The price for the tour is a steep €11 each (but if you have your Irish Heritage Card, which you can pick up for free from the Discover Ireland desk in terminal 1 of the Dublin Airport, then you can get into the Crystal Factory with a 2 for 1 admission) on a tour that barely lasts an hour. You do get one five minute view of workers working hot glass into shapes, and another five minute display of expert technicians cutting the crystal, but overall you don't learn too much. Some of the trophies on display are pretty nice to see though. Naturally, the end of the tour drops you off in the gift shop, where you can buy a crystal grizzly bear for €30,000!

Lovely if you have loads of money to spend in here (although some items are cheaper).
