“Great place to camp or caravan”
Reviewed August 22, 2011

We stayed in Strandhill in July this year and we were lucky to get great weather and loved it. On the down side you can't book your caravan in and since we were staying over the 12th which is generally busy, and travelling from Belfast this was a wee bit of a worry. However we got a pitch with no problem at all. The toilets are a wee bit dated and could do with a revamp, but hopefully you'd not be spending too much time there anyway! On the up side, there is a bar (which you can sit and have a drink outside of with the dog), places to eat a couple of minutes walk away and a shop and chemist about 5 minutes up the road which is very handy. The garage on the top road as you drive towards Strandhill has a bit of a better selection of foods as it's a bit bigger. The beach is really beautiful especially at night and overall a great place to stay.

I'm a single mum and stayed on this site with my toddler for 6 nights, in our small tent. We got home tonight and I am 'homesick' for the site - it was the best holiday we've had and all credit to the site, though of course excellent weather really helped. Yes, this site is rather pricey as we paid 20 euros per night for our small tent and then you pay for showers and use of the kitchen on top of that. But basically you are paying for the location, right on the beautiful and unspoilt beach, five minutes walk through a shortcut to a row of great restaurants and pubs and cafes and looking up at the mountain. The family tent area felt very safe and staff were always friendly and helpful, not too rushed even though the site was full. What I love about camping besides the great outdoors is the communal spirit - my son played ball with loads of other kids and I had conversations and evening drinks with a few adults. I can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: There's tent space on the dunes but also a safer-feeling spot in the middle of the site, for fam...

While the location was handy for the village, less than five minute walk, it was extremely over rated for a campsite. Very expensive for pitching at tent - €20 per two people tent plus €5 for extra person, a night! Plus deposit for for fob, plus €1.50 for a shower!!! they should be free!! plus had to pay for electricity for the kitchen that was under stocked. It didn't even have washing up liquid or any utensils. Completely over rated and definitely won't be back!

Camped here on May bank holiday and liked everything except the wind blowing down our tent.

Arrived on Fri evening and was edirected to an overflow field with no electricity as all other sites were booked up and was told that there is no more electrical points.
Was told that the cost would b 25euro plus 20euro deposit for safe return of Gate key/Fob and extra for a shower. Decided to camp for free at Rosses Point on side of rd (along with many others).
Very poor value for someone who is just looking to stop for a night, considering no electricity and parking in a field.
I passed two hotels on way to Sligo advertising rooms from 29euro.
I would be a little embarassed if our European neighbours were visiting Ireland and experienced this.

we have stayed in the strandhill camping park many times over the past few years and as many times as possible this summer, in the tent and in the campervan. The staff are great, the facilities are good and the location great, i cannot recomment it enough
