Reviewed March 30, 2014

For somebody like me who lives in the desert the scenic drive near Lough Gill is a real dream and a fulfillment of "super beauty" - Calm, lovely. lush - What else do you need?

“Beautiful part from Gombeen NUI 'Ballymun' flats at St Angela's college”
Reviewed November 5, 2013

Lough Gill is a gem, but after many years away we did the boat trip on the lake in August 2013. The National University of Ireland (Galway, 'Sleeven gombeenites' have desecrated the views form the southern lake drive with tower blocks on the Northern side of the lake at the old Wynne Estates Clogherevagh house that formed the nidus of the college.

You could hazard some excuse for 'wadd-shooting' Irish developers, but that one of our national university colleges has built such monstrosities in such a sensitive beauty spot and ecosphere beggars belief.

But given what they've done to Galway itself in terms of gombeen planning its hardly surprising. Just as well the 'Celtic Tiger' came to the traincrash it is.

Cycled the route last Saturday.
Beautiful morning No wind
Stunning views. It has to be right near the top of scenic attractions in Ireland.
If you are going cycle,I recommend the clockwise direction.Stop off in Drumahair for a pint and a Sambo.

“Beautiful”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

We only drove as far as Slish Wood where we parked and walked some of the forest paths. The glimpses of the lake allowed some of the best photos from our entire holiday. We didn't find toilets or cafes, so be prepared.

“Avoid the drive to Innisfree!”
Reviewed September 28, 2013

We drove around Lough Gill which is highly recommended BUT we made the mistake of following the road sign for the Isle of Innisfree. This is fine for bikes but not for vehicles as it soon becomes an extremely narrow lane. We met a 50 seater coach which had to reverse about 2 km to turn. The end result was disappointing as the isle is very nondescript. Not worth the journey.
