“Beautiful prehistoric site with a great guided tour”
Reviewed May 9, 2014

We visited Carrowmore on a drizzly day in May. My husband and I arrived just as the tour was starting. We have been on several tours of OPW (Office of Public Works) tours in Ireland and we have found all of them very well done and informative, and this tour was also. We get so much more out of the places with the tours that make the history come alive. The museum is well done and informative also. If prehistory is an interest of yours, this is a good place to visit.

“Interesting but boring”
Reviewed April 26, 2014

We've visited Carrowmore right after Newgrange and Knowth so it was boring for us... You get some guide and do the walk by your own and it's really not bad ...

“Check the Opening Times”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

It's quite a drive through a network of little hill roads to get to this site and, from the roadside, it certainly looks impressively extensive and well preserved. However, when we visited in March we unfortunately couldn't access the site because to do so you apparently have to check in first at the nearby centre and the department of heritage seem to inky bother staffing it during peak season, I suppose when they can rely on bus loads of tours. Very disappointing and very poor show for those of Irish holidaying at home and trying to keep businesses going out of season!

“Horseback Riding & History Lessons”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

I vacationed in County Sligo in May 2011 (but Trip Advisor won't let me select that date as an option) with a couple of friends and spent a week horseback riding. Right across from the riding centre is the Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery and one moring was spent with the four of us and a historian. She was wonderful, loved her job, understood our American accent and taught us things that we could never learn in books. This is a very hands-on place and we were greatly encouraged to put ourselves in the same spots as the peoples who were there eons ago. We were never rushed, all of our questions were answered & we were allowed to take as many photos as we liked. There really was nothing off limits.

The people of Sligo are friendly, welcoming and very genuine. The history is something that should not be missed when you visit this beautiful area of Ireland.

Very well preserved and renovated megalthic cemetary. The little museum is very educational. Don't miss it if you're in Sligo
