“Lovely central hotel”
Reviewed February 26, 2008

Myself and my husband staying for the weekend of 22 Feb Fri and Sat night, This is a basic hotel, right in the centre of town, clean and the staff were all very friendly. The food was ok your usual bar food. I would recommend this hotel to anyone one of the best hotels I have stayed in for a 3*. The room was lovely and clean, the bed very comfy, we had a double and single bed in our room looking out onto the town centre. The only point I would make is that more Management is needed, I only seen the one Manager on duty the whole weekend, she was pulled around everywhere, running the restaurant, enquiries at reception and there was also a large party going on downstairs, but at all times was very professional and approachable.

If you are looking for a centre base and very friendly team give this hotel a try.

Room was very small and have a very bad odour. cold water was clean but hot water was brown..Was told this was a problem in sligo but turned out it was the heating system in hotel. spoke to the general manager and she told me that it was the "owners fault" and not her's. Very very noisy room. food was ok but service was very poor. Does not seem like there is any management in the hotel . stay away!

The comments this gentleman has made I find offensive as he is telling a lie.. This man did make a complaint to me on Friday night showing me discoloured water in a glass, I informed him sometime this happens in Sligo and it was beyond our control.. He explained to me he just wanted to make me aware he felt there was a problem with our hot water tanks, and we needed to get it looked at... I informed him I would mention it to the owners of the hotel, At no time did I say it was the owners fault.....

Spent last night at the Sligo City Hotel - 99euro for a double room, midweek and off-season. This is possibly why I had no problems whatsoever finding space in the small carpark at the rear of the hotel.

Our first room did not impress, as the heating didn't work (during a particularly cold week) and the smoke alarm had a plastic bag covering it, inexplicably. However, we were promptly moved to another room which was spacious, comfortable, warm and adhering to Health and Safety regulations. The room was decorated quite nicely and the bed and its bedding were really comfortable. The bathroom was adequate - clean, with a reasonable shower - if on the small side.

There was little noise from other guests, as the hotel wasn't particularly busy. However, the noise from revellers on the street disturbed me a little - the downside of such an attractive, central location. The nearby clock tower was also a bit noisy, preventing me from sleeping soundly! In addition, the heating system has a bit of a rattle - this probably wouldn't be a problem for a very deep sleeper, though.

  • Liked — The clean, comfortable bedding
  • Disliked — The noise from the clock, passersby and the heating system

Room was OK.
Bathroom could have been lit brighter.
Breakfast was the usual fare.
Staff very friendly

The lobby / reception area is very comfortable and has a nice relaxed atmosphere. Didnt eat there apart from brekky.

Carpark (at back) was full (only takes about 10-15 cars) had to park on street. Worried about getting a parking ticket. Had to get up early and go out to pay for street parking ticket. There should be some allowance made whereby street parking can be paid for the night before so that one does not have to be up before the traffic warden. eg Some deal between Hotels and City Council. Hotel Tags issued which includes 1st 3 hours parking ?

Stayed in the Sligo City Hotel earlier this week as was in Sligo on business, cracking hotel and location, staff very friendly as well and locals drink there in the bar(which is always a good sign)

I rang the hotel directly and got a bargain rate of 55 Euro for a single room(which was a very large twin room), I will definitely be back there next time that am in Sligo....

Went there with a friend. Was an ideal location for shopping and nightlife but parking was poor, although luckily we did get into the hotel carpark on the second day.

Decided to have breakfast delivered to the room on first morning so left our order outside the door before 6am as requested but it was never collected and obviously no breakfast delivered, so didn't make same mistake the next day. Had dinner in the hotel, food was ok but limited (a number of people sitting around us sent food back) and service was poor considering there were not very many people in the restaurant.

On a positive, reception staff were excellent, rooms were very nice and clean and was situated in an ideal location. Would stay there again but maybe not eat there.

Good points - Walking distance to city, clean room, lots of large fluffy towels, pleasant staff.

Bad points - Car park, hardly any spaces really narrow, quite noisey building site nearby.
Squeaky floorboards heard guests move about above us clearly. Booked a non-smoking room could smell smoke in our room wafting though from smoking rooms thought smoking ban meant ban on smoking.
Stairs smelt of stale baby sick get in the lift quick sharp.
Bar Area was filthy, had a choc fondant dessert not very appealing .Bowl smeared with choc and golden syrup, strange.

  • Liked — Big white fluffy towels
  • Disliked — Was a bit smelly
