“Started bad- finished well - Food never again”
Reviewed December 6, 2010

we decided to travel to sligo on probably the worst wekend of the year.(weather ice and snow) On arrival after a 4 hour drive from n ireland (again weather ) we were meet at reception by a helpful member of staff. After this it started to go down hill. we changed went to the pool with the kids and then turned to bar for a quiet drink before dinner. i have to mention there was nobody in the bar and we got the feeling that we were about the only people staying in the hotel. the kids were running about and we felt like it was causing a problem for the staff not that they were busy doing anything. not once did they come to our table to take a drink order. we left and proceeded to the restaurant to eat what i can only describe as the worst meal i have ever had put in front of me. waiter was foreign and she had problems taking our order and understanding us.i have been a chef for twenty years so i think i can safely discuus a good and bad meal also the two husbands with my party are also long standing chefs. returned to the bar for more of the bad treatment we had recieved earlier. left the hotel for a few drinks and on our return we discussed the food and service with the night manager. (he was very helpful). day two and we could have been staying in a differnt hotel. from first thing in the morning the staff were bending of backwards to be helpful. i am not complaining it was great we had a fantastic day the bar manager was brilliant with the kids and the duty manager was fab and was helpful in every way. i spoke to her about the different intreatment we had recieved and she said she had no reports from the previous day. can only say thanks to the staff we had the pleasure of dealing with on the saturday and sunday. dined on saturday night and im sorry to report we recieved and even worse meal than the night before. this hotel could be a fantastic find in sligo if the staff were more guest friendly and they could serve a meal you would consider paying for.

The worst hotel ever. Stayed 2 nights. Got some sleep the first night got none the second night. Some guests up all night and made so much noise. At 5.00 p.m. some ignorant guests decided to bang on the bedroom doors and I had to ring reception about it. they did calm down a little when the night porter came up to then.
Food is bad. Staff seem to try their best. So do not stay here they do not deserve your hard earned money you will leave the hotel tierd and cranky it just ruins your break

Stayed in this hotel on 19th and 20th of November. There were a number of graduation ceremonies in Sligo that week-end. The hotel was very noisy both nights, the noise continued all night. I would not recommend this hotel. Management did not attempt to control the noise levels.

This must have been a glorious place to stay in its heyday - situation next to the station would have been great if travelling by train, and the parking was free. The building was large, lots of stairs to negotiate up to the entrance and beyond , and the large foyer had a couple of fires roaring and comfy looking armchairs.
Our room was all in deep burgundy . huge with a double and a single bed.
We had intended dining in the restaurant but thought the menu at 38 euros was overpriced. Even a humble plate of fish and chips in the bar was 14 euros.
The receptionist was helpful in directing us to Carrowmore which is tricky to find.

We have stayed here 4 times over the years and it never fails to please. Lovely staff, fantastic food, nice small pool, have recommended this hotel to loads of people everyone loves it. It could do with a lick of paint etc but in a way that makes it too, nice and homely. Enjoy it if you go.

The hotel is large and adjacent to Sligo railway station. The town centre is a five minute walk from the hotel and the area is one of great natural beauty.Sandy beaches, great surf, lakes and mountains are practically on the doorstep. The hotel itself is old and has a crumbling victorian elegance. The rooms, which although not spacious are adequate. The beds are comfortable, though the bed linens and bathroom towels are less than crisp.Attention to detail is lacking which is a great pity as this could be a great hotel if the management would be more proactive and monitor the standards of service and cleanliness within the hotel. It seems that the housekeeping staff do as little as they can get away with and no one takes the time to inspect their work.As a result there is an air of shabbiness. The food provided by the hotel is of a good standard, but plain and there is plenty of it.The bar is well run. Reception is understaffed.During our stay the lift broke and although the hotel was occupied by elderly people at the time, many of whom had limited mobility, there appeared to be no appreciation of their difficulties shown by staff or offers made to help them.Management seemed to swan about ignoring the chaos. This lack of consideration was so disappointing as it is apparent that especially this time of year, the hotel would appear to rely on elderly tour parties on a budget. This is a hotel which is adequate for a short stay, but do'nt expect to be pampered.
