“Enjoyable Hotels”

During our trip to Ireland we stayed at the Best Western Southern Hotel, an old fashioned quaint
hotel, an enjoyable and relaxing place to stay. Good service and an excellent cooked English breakfast. not a fan of Haggis for breakfast but plenty of other breakfast choices.

Very nice hotel with all of the service you could ask for. Clean rooms a bit on the smallish size, great spa/fitness center which included a pool large enough to swim laps, a co-ed stream room and hot tub, and large workout room with multiple machines for both cardio and strength training. The only drawback was the lack of A/C which made sleeping in the 80 plus degree heat not so nice. The breakfast buffet was good and offered both hot and cold items. Excellent pub on-site and staff was friendly.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street didn't get the afternoon sun and heat but are a bit louder with the wind...

Nice location, don't expect much for the price, simple but good.
Hotel need to be refreshing.
Don't forgot to ask the remote control before to go to your bedroom.
Try to have a bedroom with two windows if the weather is very warm.

My husband and I are just home from 3 nights dinner, bed and breakfast. Our room was large and the bed very comfortable, the weather was extremely hot but our room had two windows so there was a lovely breeze which kept the room cool. Great bathroom and instant hot water every time, a shower which was simple to use and didn't need a degree to understand, also robes and slippers provided. The bar area could do with a make over but it has character. The breakfast was fine, dinner each evening was well cooked and very nicely presented, there was a wine of the week at 13 euros. We had the white which was was very acceptable. Entertainment each evening was most enjoyable. The staff were very helpful and lovely to chat to. Recommend this hotel as it is a good location and good value for money.

Room Tip: If the weather is hot ask for a room with a large window or even two.

Stayed here on sat night 20/7/13, check in was great and efficient. Location is perfect for either town or beach trips, strandhill is only a 5-7 min drive. room was very big and had all basics and comfy beds, can't ask for more than that in a 3 star. Leisure centre was not nice. pool is very basic which is fone, but changing rooms were very dirty and clearly had not been cleaned in quite some time. also, when I went down to use the pool after 6, it was quiet, but there was no one at the desk. I waited for 5 mins, still nobody there to sign me in. I ended up going behind the counter myself to grab a fresh towel, then at 7 while I was swimming some guy comes into the pool area and says, ''we're closing up there now pal'', turns around, turns the lights off in the pool, and walks out of the leisure centre??!! when I went to leave, again, there was nobody manning the desk, bizarre set up!! slept well until 9 am when the staff start hoovering the halls and shouting orders at each other down the hall and chatting like it was mid afternoon, with no regard for the many guests still resting. no excuse for it as check out is 11 and check in is 3, so there is a 4hr period for them to do all of this work when guests are either up and out, or, have not arrived. but if you're looking for a cheap(ish) and cheerful hotel with good desk service decent rooms in a great location in Sligo and you're not too bothered about noise or luxury, then this is the place for you.

Stay was disappointing!
Breakfast was minimal for those who do not eat cooked breakfast! and even for those who do!!!!!
Evening meal was edible but not memorable! Bar food was even worse! Although eating and looking at dead flies in the windowsill and thick dust on skirting didn't help!
Total put-off was having to walk through a smoking area at the entrance to the hotel! Not a very attractive first impression! (Most hotels provide this area to the rear of the premises) Also room was unbearably hot (although this was due to the hot weather!)
Room was not overly clean! (very dusty skirting's, light fittings etc! On a plus side Staff were a credit to this hotel! Excellent Staff.Sligo countryside & beaches are so beautiful!

Very disappointed with the room too small and the view is of the railway track and bushes. Stayed here for our anniversary not nice. Never been in such a small, outdated & noisey hotel ever. they didn't lift the breakfast list of the door either. Very un organised. Wyden suit back packers or single people. Location is fine close to bars & restaurants. Also our room is at the back of the hotel so a 5 min walk at least. the lift is a joke you Wyden be quicker opening the front door. Will not EVER stay here again very very disappointed hotel badly needs an uplift
