“Excellent hotel, would recommend”
Reviewed June 13, 2010

Stayed in this hotel with my mother as part of a package deal. Reception was warm and friendly when we arrived, offered to help us with our bags etc. The room was large and clean, had everything you needed for your stay. The bathroom was lovely, we were put in a disabled room and it was good for a wheelchair. We stayed on the first floor, with our room overlooking the tennis courts and 3 doors from the lesiure centre within the hotel. This was a bit disapointing as it was quite noisy at night, so it was quite late before we got to sleep. The staff where nice and friendly, we ate in the restraunt on the first night, the menu was limited however the food was of good quality although expensive. I would stay at this hotel again in the near future as it is fully wheelchair accessible.

Sligo Park is a good hotel, with friendly staff. Its a bit further away from town than we would have liked. Its a long walk from the hotel to the centre. The rooms are of a good quality and the beds comfy.

The restaurant is ok, nothing special though the breakfasts are good. There is a particularly fussy older man working there who wasn't really in control of the area but no doubt thinks he is. The morning he wasn't there, everything was far smoother when run by the lovely waitressing staff.

The bar area is nice and relaxing. Overall I'd recommend the Hotel as a great base point to visit this lovely part of the world, with the main drawback being its a bit outside the town.

(One place to avoid in Sligo is Yeats Tavern out the country (you won't miss it). Basically its a tourist trap with very expensive yet totally disappointing food, very poor indeed!)

Dear Megafan

Thank you for choosing Sligo Park Hotel and Leisure Club for your recent visit to Sligo. Thank you also for taking the time to post your review on Trip Advisor.
It is good to read your very positive comments regarding the friendly staff and the quality rooms.

All of our team, of mixed ages, work well together and the excellent atmosphere nurtured by the restaurant manager is widely complimented by our guests.

We hope you will return soon again. If you are here again you may find it enjoyable to take a stroll into town and avail of the suburban bus service (or a taxi) back home. The bus stop is just at the hotel entrance.

Thank you for recommending the Sligo Park Hotel and Leisure Club.

Kind regards

Staff were great, friendly helpful and extremely nice. Definitely not four star. The restaurant is awful, and the evening meal (which was part of the package) was awful. Menu was EXTREMELY limited for €30 per head. We attempted to order a half bottle of red and a half bottle of white from the very limited selection. Neither were available. After a very poor quality meal, we decided to get the cheese board from the a la carte menu and a half bottle of dessert wine from the wine menu. The cheeseboard was pathetic comprising of 4 tuc crackers with some brie, camembert and some other white soft cheese, no blue, cheddar or anything, and yet again the dessert wine was out of stock with no other dessert wine available. The white and red wine half bottles cost €15 each, it was awful wine - Santa Rita - a full bottle of it retails at €6.99, so why on earth does Sligo Park charge €15 for a half bottle !! Saw other people in the restaurant also complaining about their meals. Wouldn't return to the hotel, the bathrooms while clean are dated back about 15 or 20 years. Such a shame for a hotel with such lovely staff to be so bad in these other areas.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your recent review on Trip Advisor and your very complimentary remarks about the Sligo Park Hotel staff.

We are very concerned about your disappointment regarding menu and wine list choice. We stock a wide range of wines and it is most unusual that your choices were unavailable. We apologise for this. As for your menu choice, I would be glad of an opportunity to discuss this with you if you care to contact me personally. The Hazelwood Restaurant offers a table d’hote and a la carte menu. The Rathanna bar also has a very appealing and varied menu to choose from. It is standard practise to offer these choices to each guest.

Once again I want to thank you for taking the time to post your review. We value your comments very much.

Please let us know if ever we can be of assistance to you,

Kind regards

Just spent two nights here. we also spent a night here a few months ago as well. We where very happy with it. The rooms we had both times where very big with nice bathrooms and great views of both knocknarea and benbulbun. We made good use of the pool as well which was great. The staff are very helpful as well.

Hi returned from a long weekend in the sligo park hotel

30 people in our party from Carfin Scotland and every single person enjoyed the hotel facilities and the food.

I wonder why this hotel received some bad reviews...

We would recommend this hotel for a weekend away....

Every member of staff in the Sligo park, were amazing. Polite, friendly and happy to help with anything. Our room was spacious and well laid out. We particularly liked the table and two chairs, where we could sit and drink coffee in the mornings. The room was pristine, every time we returned after it had been serviced. The leisure centre was excellent, no need to even bring a towel down as they will provide you with whatever you need. Again, wonderful staff. In the Rathanna bar, the staff were great, full of craic and happy to tell you where the best spots in Sligo were. The first night we ate here, perfectly adequate pub grub. However we were most excited to sample the breakfast and indeed our evening meal in the Hazelwood. The breakfast the next morning was most disapointing, due to low numbers, the hot buffet was off (understandable) and we were asked to order what we wanted, we both ordered full Irish. Both came out terribly dried up, skins on the beans, bacon looked as if it had been pulled off a christmas turkey after hours of roasting. That evening we decided to have our evening meal in the 30euro per head Hazelwood. The food was terrible, for starters I was given slices of cold chicken with a dollop of mayo and a few lettuce leaves straight out of a bag of mixed leaves. Oh and a few unsliced tomatoes for good measure. I'm sure a 12 year old could have presented it better. Presentation means very little if the taste is there, alas it wasn't. For mains I had chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with spinach, I expressed concern that the chicken would be dried out, but my partner reminded me it was wrapped in bacon and should be ok. Again, alas, we were wrong, chicken was flavourless and terribly dry. And the christmas turkey bacon, returned to haunt me. I can only presume the chef is an apprentice or a chef who has absolutely no passion for the food he/she serves. I've eaten better food at a local caf. 30euro a head...are you joking?? The service I was provided with in the Sligo park was TREMENDOUS, but the food was dire. We will be back, but will certainly not be eating in-house.

Just back from a weekend break in the beautiful Sligo. Had originally booked into the Clarion Hotel but having read the reviews on Tripadvisor thought the Park sounded better and changed!! How in God's name this hotel is rated four star is absolutely beyond me. On arrival we were a bit taken aback by the extremely dated decor . The hotel is 50 years old this year and it would appear very little has changed in those 50 years. We truly felt we had been caught in a time warp! Our room was average ( shower didn't work properly) No bottled water in the room which would be fairly basic in most four star hotels and the breakfast was appalling! A buffet that was surely cooked hours before any unfortunate residents arose...rubbery rashers ....scrambled eggs sitting in a pool of yellow liquid... fried eggs congealing for hours ..a contraption for making your own toast if you could call what emerged from it toast! We had booked on a bed breakfast and evening meal basis but knew after the first mouthful of breakfast that we would be skipping the evening meal!! At no stage during our 3 night stay did anyone ask if everything was alright and even as we checked out we were not asked had we enjoyed our stay!! Our answer would have been certainly that we enjoyed our stay in Sligo but that we certainly did not enjoy The Park!

Dear Guest

Thank you for selecting the Sligo Park Hotel and Leisure Club for your recent break. We were glad to see you refer to 'beautifu'l Sligo. Indeed Sligo is very beautiful.

However we read with concern the rest of your review. Yes we are happily celebrating 40 successful years this year. I assure you the Sligo Park Hotel has had continuous investment over its 40 years. It is disappointing that the décor didn’t appeal to your particular taste.

We are especially concerned about your remarks regarding your breakfast and this is being addressed. It is standard procedure that your satisfaction would be checked while here, I am sorry that this didn’t happen as we may have had a chance to rectify these matters.

I also want to apologise to you for providing you with a weekend which was a disappointment to you. We are not happy about this. As you have pointed out, this is not a reflection of what most guests have said about Sligo Park Hotel and Leisure Club. Thank you for taking the time to post your review, your feedback is very valuable to us and will be acted upon. We are glad to read that you enjoyed your stay in Sligo.

If you care to discuss your thoughts with me at any time, I would be delighted to hear from you. If you decide to return to Sligo Park we would be delighted to welcome you back

Kind regards
