“That little bit extra”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

When you show up in a restaurant a few minutes after 7 p.m. to find that it offers an early bird that expires at 7, but the barman, taking pity, arranges for you to get the early bird anyway, that's the kind of hospitality you like, but almost expect to find, in the west of Ireland. Rosses Point would have been famous for its rugged beauty had Yeats never mentioned it in his poetry, but since he did, there's a Yeats Country Hotel up the road, which is bustling with families and tour groups and everything incumbent thereon. Which is not to say there's anything wrong, but for something more relaxing, the Waterfront Bar and Restaurant fits the bill nicely. The view is out on the bay, with sailboats bobbing in the swift-flowing current, and the welcome inside is friendly, warm, and that barman pulls a nice pint of Guinness as well.
Did I mention the food? A healthy portion of honey-glazed chicken wings, an ample burger and an apple crumble with ice cream, whipped cream and a couple of Wexford-tasting strawberries were on that early bird, all for just under 20 euro not including service. Other menu offers included mussels in a cream sauce, prawns, fried Donegal crab claws and steaks in various forms, including a steak sandwich for diners on the fly, plus a vegetarian special.
Nothing to say you couldn't find a better meal somewhere in Sligo proper, but you can't put a price on this kind of welcoming atmosphere, friendly service, attentive touches in the kitchen -- and that priceless view.

“Overpriced and dark”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2012 via mobile

Good choice available but a tad expensive. The main dining area is away from the views of the sea which means there's little natural light. Too many student waitresses and no obvious person in charge. We won't be back.

“Don't go here if you are hungry”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2012

Nice place lovely view at Rosses Point but the portions were ridiculous as they were so small. My husband could hardly see the potatoes not good enough if you are hungry
