We stayed in the Ardmore Country House Hotel for four nights and wish we had stayed longer. The small hotel is warm, comfortable and very relaxing and is situated overlooking the beautiful Clew Bay. We had a large, comfortable room with a sea view which was beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, as is the whole hotel. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to Westport Quay which has a few nice bars and shops and is a 10 minute drive into Westport town. The surrounding scenery is stunning – Clew Bay, Croagh Patrick and lots of nice beaches - with the opportunity for lots of nice walks and cycles. Noreen and Pat run the hotel and are so friendly and helpful. We wished we had stayed longer and look forward to returning soon.

Lovely small hotel in WestportVery nice family run hotel. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean and breakfast (scrambled egg with local smoked salmon) was yummy and cooked to order. Dinner in the restaurant was very good and the hotel is only a short walk to the Quay area where we enjoyed the local bars. All staff were incredibly friendly. Will certainly return.

Myself and my wife stayed in the Ardmore in late June at the recent Music festival, and contrary to some of the other reviews on here, we had a wonderful time that completely met our expectations. Do people not read the websites of where they're going to stay prior to their visit? Our requirements were a peaceful setting, with personal service and quality food, and that's exactly what we got. Westport can be quite a busy little town and the Ardmore provided us with the perfect base to unwind after the long days enjoying the live music in Westport house.

The hosts met any little requirement we looked for including booking us into local restaurants and suggesting drives throughout the area out to Leenane and Louisberg. Ardmore is a small luxurious hotel and if what you want is to stay up to 5 in the morning drinking then maybe you should stay somehere else! Westport is full of go all night hotels but for the discerning traveller I'd highly recommend the Ardmore.

Room Tip: The room we had on the first floor with a view over Clewbay was fab, just a pity the weather wasn't quite up to it! ah well, that's Ireland!

this is definitely not an hotel i dont even know how it got graded as an hotel it should be a B & B. Everything was old going back to the paper in our room which was on my parents walls 20 years ago...we could not open the bedroom windows. no tea/coffee facilities..no buffet next morning for the pricet is a rip off compared to the likes of the Hilton and other hotels which are a lot cheaper.

Room Tip: I cant add a tip

Ardmore Country House Hotel is a small boutique hotel located just south of the historic port area of Westport, County Mayo. The house has the feel of an elegant country home, from the fireplace in the entry hall to the stylish ‘period’ furniture in the bedrooms. Noreen and Pat play host and chef to you during your stay.

On the ground floor are two comfortable lounges, one with a bar, and the hotel’s restaurant.

We had a bedroom on the first floor at the front of the hotel, which looked out on to the well kept gardens and further to Westport’s bay. The room was large and well furnished, with a king sized bed, two upholstered chairs, two other chairs, a round table, dresser, small old fashioned TV and (unusually) a trouser press. There were no tea making facilities, room safe or bar fridge.

The room was bright, even on dull days, because of its two, large sash windows

The bathroom, while dated, was large and clean, with a separate bath and shower stall.

We both enjoyed the cooked breakfasts served in the hotel’s restaurant which offered a small but interesting variety of dishes. The dinner menu, while also not extensive, hit all the benchmarks in terms of quality and choice. There was a reasonable wine list too.

The quay, located only a short walk along the foreshore, has a few interesting shops and some places to eat or have a drink. The Carlton Atlantic Coast Hotel on the quay has a swimming pool that is open to the public and an ‘Ayurvedic’ spa centre where we both had a relaxing massage.

It is a good twenty minute walk up and down hills from Ardmore House into the centre of Westport town, but it is worth a visit. It is lively town, full of shops, cafes and restaurants. Traffic is busy, but we found that when we drove in we could always find a parking spot. The one-way streets can be a problem, but our GPS managed to work it out without sending us the wrong way.

Visitors to town should make sure they go to Matt Molloy’s pub in the evening. That’s when musicians come in to the pub and have a session of good Irish music. It is very popular, so buy a pint of beer and grab a stool early.

If you’re looking for a special meal in town, An Port Mór is the place to go. This restaurant has a following in the area and has won several awards. And, unless you’re kosher, you have to try the pig cheeks, they are sensational. The restaurant is over the road from Matt’s pub, so a great night out is dinner at Frankie Mallon’s restaurant followed by Irish music at Matt’s place.

Room Tip: Have a room on the first floor at the front of the hotel.
