Enjoyed our stay. Standard of fittings in room excellent, clean, super bath and shower, really nice owners. Only negative was that tea/coffee tray had to be asked for and was sparse. Well worth €90 per room/night.

Ardmore Country house sits off the old coast road from Westport to Louisburg just beyond Wesport Harbour. You can walk to the harbour and its shops, restaurants and bars in five minutes city time and ten minutes Mayo time. If you want to go into Westport town I suggest you need transport as its a 20 minute city walk up and down a few small hills.

The hotel itself is extremely well fitted and furnished, top class I felt. One snag there were no coffee/tea making facilities, which is curious as all other facilities such as ironing board, hair dryer, TV, bath and separate shower were in our double room. We had travelled all day and a cuppa was badly needed. The receptionist did offer to bring us coffee and tea but somehow the moment had gone.

The hotel is family run and welcoming. The bed was great as was the night's sleep which was also partly due to the intoxicating Mayo sea air and several equally intoxicating Guinness. What a combination.

But up with the lark and an early morning drive down the harbour and around Mayo town. This is the best time as the locals do not rise too early and duriing the day the small town with its one-way system can get quite congested. Don't be in a hurry in Westport from 12.00 - 18.00 if you are driving. On holiday, however, this is not so bad as you can always strike up a conversation with passing pedestrians as you sit in the traffic jam.

Back for breakfast. What a treat. Unusually for me I opted for muesli to start with. The range covered virtually every type of cereal, fruit as well as porridge for our Scottish friends. Well the home made muesli was absolutely outstanding and if you visit you must try it, that's a must. This was followed by an Irish breakfast. Not only did it taste great but it fulfilled the vital function of an Irish breakfast, you don't need to eat again until sundown.

We spent one night at Ardmore and I can certainly recommend it. Try and get a front room with views of Clew Bay and see if you can get the coffee/tea on arrival. I think its best for those with their own transport but that goes for the whole of Mayo.

Room Tip: As mentioned above ask for a sea view.

4 of us stayed for 4 nights at The Ardmore Country House Hotel, we were all delighted with the welcome, the beautiful rooms, the best ever breakfasts (fantastic eggs from their own hens) and we had dinner one night which was wonderful, Pat & Noreen were very good hosts and we would return and recommend very highly.

Although it is described as a "country house hotel", I felt that this was more a very, very nice B & B. It was spotlessly clean, and the bed was very large, which was welcome.
Our room was at the top of the building, and had sloping velux-type windows, so one had to stand up to see the view. The sloping ceiling was also a feature in the bathroom, which made it difficult for a man over 5 feet tall to use the toilet! The website promised bottled water, bathrobes and slippers in the rooms, but these were absent. The promised wi-fi was also not working.
Despite this, I would stay again, although I would not be happy to pay the full price.

Bedroom was a good size and clean, but style wise, very old fashioned and dark, natural light didnt seem to light the room sufficiently enough. One pillow each, no extras where placed in the press as an option and there was no tea making facilities in the room! Which is always standard. The bed also had sheets and blankets as opposed to a duvet. Basically this bnb is very over-priced and you can get better value closer to town, i was left feeling very disappointed overall. Especially as it is marketed as a Hotel, it is not a hotel and you will not feel like spending any down time in the house, very much a family run bnb.
