“Excellent Service and a breakfast to remember”
Reviewed July 14, 2010

We stayed in the Waterside recently and with 3 adults had 2 children aged 3 and 5 months. The accomodation was immaculate and the rooms were spacious considering we had a travel cot in one. However, it was the friendly and excellent customer service that stood out to us. Jim's breakfast was amazing and especially for the 3 year old who still talks about the garnish on her plate with her suasages which was an excellent touch. We were only 2 mins from the harbour which was fab as there is a playground for kids and also some amusements.

Would highly recommed the Waterside as family friendly and certainly a home away from home.

I was traveling with two 11-year-old boys who have energy to spare. The gorgeous area was ideal for the outdoor activities that kids love. The B&B's owners, Jim and Catherine, are the ideal hosts--friendly and extremely helpful without being at all obtrusive. Jim arranged for the boys to take his puppy on a walk each morning after breakfast, which they just loved. He also had extremely helpful advice regarding parking in downtown Westport and the most direct driving route to Galway.

At the end of the day when we returned to the B&B and I was tired from trying to keep up with the kids, we could simply walk around the corner for dinner. We had two lovely meals at local restaurants recommended at the B&B, The Helm and Quay Cottage.
Our room was immaculate, and had a gorgeous view and a nice warm shower that was especially crucial after a hike up Croagh Patrick.

Woudl recommend this very special place to any traveling to Westport.

We showed up with confirmation in hand for 3 rooms the night of July 4th 2007 looking forward to celebrating our Independence Day holiday with a visit to Westport. We arrived around lunch time and found the door to the B&B locked, so we thought they might be at lunch and we went to the pub across the street and had lunch. 90 minutes later the B&B was still locked. No sign on the door or anything. An open laptop computer on a table just inside the door made it appear as though someone might be there. We knocked many times on the door, and called their phone number and no one answered. Then someone in the pub told us they thought "the girl left in charge for the day had closed the B&B to take the day off."

We had just left that morning from staying with the best B&B hostess ever, Ethna Diver, at Inishduff House in Kilcar, Donegal, and arrived in the rain in Westport to find our B&B was closed with no notification made to us even though we had booked it directly with the hotel two months earlier.

While I was still banging on the locked door to the B&B, the women dragged our luggage through the rain up the street and found a hotel that could accommodate us.

So, if you're thinking of staying at the Waterside, you better a) think twice about it, and, b) call the day before arriving to see if they plan to close the day of your reservation.

PS. We left voicemails for the B&B that day and sent them a note afterward and they never responded to any of these. If you take a chance and stay with them, I hope things work out better for you.

While on an Irish Bike Safari tour we were checked into
this lovely b n b. Spacious room with a hot water shower. Great
central location, close to restaurants. Owner was an American
who married an Irish wife. Great breakfast even offered to cook
mackerel but didn't take him up on the offer.

10th june 2006. Stayed just one night during a quick visit to Westport and will certainly stay longer the next time. Lucky to get room number seven on the top floor offering beautiful sunsets across Clew Bay with Croagh Patrick to the left. Lovely clean bright room had a double plus one single bed, TV and ensuite bathroom with shower. Full Irish breakfast in the morning before we explored Achill Island and all this for 70 Euro total for two people. Also stayed at The Westport House Hotel just around the corner and for 106 Euro for two with breakfast would also give this a confident thumbs-up.
