“Beautiful B&B On the Outskirts of Westport”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012

I stayed here one night with friends and was happy with my experience. We booked in at the last minute on a Saturday night, and I was happy to find accomodation on such short notice. The B&B is located on the outskirts of the Quay in Westport, near the harbor. While it would be about a 5-10 minute walk to the Quay where there are places to eat, I wouldn't recommend doing so, as the road isn't the best for walkers. It would be better to get a cab or drive your own car. The B&B itself is situated in a subdivision with other lovely homes. The room was spacious enough, good water pressure in the shower, and plenty of hot water. I had a good nights sleep here, and the house was very quiet in the evening. Breakfast in the morning was adequate--and you had a choice of meals to select from. I opted for the scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. The inn keepers were also quite nice and helpful. All in all, I wouldn't hesitate returning to this B&B in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor, and it was very quiet.

We recently completed a 3 week vacation during which we drove around the entire island of Ireland. Over 20 nights we stayed in 18 different Bed & Breakfasts, paying between €50 to €80, and £60 to £65 in Northern Island. This review is based upon the relative merits of Cillcoman Lodge with respect to other B&Bs that we visited.
We chose Cillcoman Lodge because it seemed like a reasonably priced B&B in Westport. We paid €66 for our one night stay. Surprisingly, Cillcoman Lodge was willing to take payment from a credit card – all the other B&Bs wanted to be paid with cash, apparently the banks charge high fees for credit card transactions.
Cillcoman Lodge is a relatively large place, it has three levels of rooms. Unfortunately, late arriving guests came in about 11:30 PM to the room above us and woke us up.
The proprietor is a nice and helpful person. She suggested we could eat at Sheebans pub, which is what we did. Sheeban’s is within walking distance (but we drove anyway because it look it was going to rain).
Cillcoman is just outside of Westport, if you wanted to walk back into the center of town it would be 20 minutes or so. Cillcoman is on a small lane, off of the main road. This means there is no town noise and no traffic noise – it is quiet inside. It also has a large parking lot, which I like, because I had difficulty parking our rental car in some of Ireland tiny parking spaces.
I ordered the traditional Irish breakfast next morning, plus I filled up on a nice selection of cereal and yogurt – I needed a lot of energy for climbing up Croagh Patrick!
Cillcoman is a nice place. I would stay there again.

My wife and I stayed here one night while on a cycling trip of western Ireland and we really enjoyed it. It's outside of town, but a very nice location. The room and bath were the nicest and largest of any B & B we stayed in while in Ireland. The proprietors were very professional and helpful. The breakfast was excellant. Overall, it was one of the best B & B experiences we've had.
There is an excellant pub for dinner within easy walking distance. No need to go into town.

I stayed at the Cillcoman Lodge after the first---and hardest--day of a Connemara cycle trip. The Lodge is on the far side of town, set up on a hill with lots of land. Built as a B&B, not a conversion, it is much roomier than most, and Mary, the owner, clearly takes pride in its appearance. The rooms are larger, extremely well maintained, and the bathrooms are roomy with lots of hot water. It's either a healthy walk or a quick drive/cycle back to the main town, but set off the road away from town, the silence at night was most welcome. Rather than returning to town for dinner, I heartily recommend the Shebeen pub, just past the B&B. The bar menu is extensive, and since they share a building with an excellent restaurant, the meals are spectacular. A nice ambience, frequented by locals as much as tourists. Mary makes a wonderful breakfast, and you leave well-fed and well-rested.

Since more than 10 days we were traveling to and around Ireland (over 3 500km). Full day tour has us a little bit tired. When we arrived on the evening at Westport and we crossed the colorful streets, we had only wanted to sleep. B & B turned out to be a luxurious villa, which, compared to the spartan conditions of the previous night, seemed a palace. A friendly welcome by the host and showed us the room which we very happily tuned. Huge king beds, modern bathroom, internet access on the ground floor in the living room, delicious breakfast - all for only 100 €. The quality is worth the price.

This B&B was situated in a convenient place to the very attractive harbour and its bars and restaurants. The house itself was beautiful and clean and it was obvious that the owners had very high standards. The room and en-suite were also very pretty and clean. This is one B&B I can highly recommend and the friendliness of the owners.

The service was very good at this B&B. Excellent breakfast fare. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The location to the town of Westport was not really close. you need to take a cab. When we booked this room, the description said it was within walking distance to shops and restaurants. But it was not a lot of trouble to get into town.
