“Westport Woods Girls weekend away”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

We had a fabulous weekend in Westport and really enjoyed our stay in Westport Woods. The staff were really helpful, good fun and couldn't help us enough. The hotel was really clean, spacious and comfortable. The hotel is a little bit out from the centre of the town so you would have to get a short taxi journey in at night, however you could walk it during the day. The breakfast was really good every morning. I wouldn't recommend dinner in the hotel however, it was pretty basic.

Stayed here for two days with my wife and sister. We requested two rooms close by and the hotel staff were happy to help. The hotel is situated in nice wooded grounds backing on to a river. Its an ideal spot just 5 minutes outside of Westport near the Quay. The restaurant and bar area were spacious and the cooked Irish breakfasts were more than enough for us. Loved the white pudding with bacon and eggs. There is a leisure spa on site as well. I have read the negative reports about the rooms being dated and the meals pricey but I have to say although not a 5 star hotel the rooms and meals were competively priced given the costs in Ireland today. All our requests were met with courtesy even when we asked for a good restaurant nearby. The night porter opened the bar up for us when we returned much later. This hotel and staff are a credit to County Mayo. Well done.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back overlooking the river.

We booked this hotel through a groupon deal and were nervous beforehand about the room we would get, from reading some reviews. The common areas of the hotel are warm, clean and welcoming but our room really wasn't up to standard and I would have been livid if we had paid the full whack. The interior was dated, especially the bathroom and the TV was very old - although we did sneek a peek at some rooms with flatscreens down the hall. The location is fine - during the day, in flats! Can see it being a great place for families.

Positives first! The hotel is clean, rooms are spacious and location is good, close to town with a steady supply of hackneys to bring you in and out. Got the room for €55 through booking.com which is good value for Westport especially at the weekend.
When we arrived Saturday evening there was no hot water in the shower, it was about 5pm by then. There was only half a toilet roll in the bathroom, I know they are eco-friendly but seriously! Had to go to reception at 2am to complain as our room was freezing, not that it did any good as my boyfriend was told that the heating switches off automatically during the night and that he would send up an electric heater if he could find one, he obviously couldn't as we heard no more from him nor was there any apology from anyone when we were checking out the following morning, they didn't even ask if we enjoyed our stay! Other little annoyances; there was no "do not disturb" sign for the door, the bed was rock hard, and the safe didn't work and had loo roll stuffed in the door to keep it closed. The set menu in the restaurant is very simple, the food plain and overpriced but the service was quick and efficient. Breakfast was self service buffet and very tasty though had to smile at the size of the plates they obviously don't want you taking much food! This was an ok hotel for one night for the price, it just seems a shame that so many things are overlooked as it could be a lovely hotel with a few changes and more attention to detail.

I stayed here last week and was very disappointed in my stay. I found the hotel very dated, rooms were neglected and dirty. The first room I was in had no shower curtain, the phone didn't work, the trouser press did not work and there was no iron, room was dirty. When I complained I was moved to a worse room that had stains on the wall, dirty carpet and dressing table. In both rooms there were bad stains on the carpets, walls, cushions, almost everywhere. There is no excuse for dirty rooms and poor hygiene.

The hotel was noisy at night and in the morning. I went away to enjoy a nice relaxing night but had anything but. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It was very over priced for what you receive.

Room Tip: Do not stay in 234 or 217 (see photos below)

A lovely hotel with leisure centre, Staff are very good at trying to upsell. Didn't eat in restaurant as it seemed pricy, three course meal thirty euro. Disappointed with room, it was cold even though radiator was on, not too many blankets on the bed either and tv not working properly. It was a nice hotel for a getaway break but they could do better with the rooms.

stayed here with partner and two kiddies on a pigsback voucher. must say the staff were more than helpful. receptionist was very nice and always ready to help. This hotel has a lot going for it, nice rooms, lovely food, great location, nice playground and good bar. the only negative we found was that the bar was under staffed on the friday night. This is only a small gripe and overall we would have no hesitation to recommending this hotel to family and friends. Will definitely be back !!!

Room Tip: asked for a delux room, you may have to pay a little more but its well worth it
