The drive around Achill offers spectacular views of the Atlantic crashing against the cliffs, and there are several beautiful beaches. Biking and hiking is on offer for those so inclined. This place is not to be missed - I was not driving and felt it was money well spent to hire a driver from McGing’s taxi.

A nice drive round Achile island.
A brisk, clear day with fantastic scenery
Very little traffic at this time of the year, could imagine that during the summer months it could be congested due to the narrow roads.
Plenty of opportunity to get out of the car for a walk or climb up a few of the hills.

The sky meets the ocean and kisses the land. Clouds look like they are made on the islands. Lots of seasons in one day. The roads were quiet and you can find lovely secluded spots. It's peaceful but it looks like it could rage up at you at any time. It's gorgeous and wild. You'll love it.

A little scary, driving on a narrow road with a shear drop on one side there are no guard rails so the views are stunning. One might meet a stray or flock of sheep munching on the roadside. Or the sheep might just be roaming down the road.

We went there, four of us. We stopped where we pleased. A glorious day for October. Sunny blue sky, few clouds. Good visibility. As good as it gets. The sight and sound of the white-foamed waves crashing on the rocks, the smell of the sea filled me with joy like few other things can. There were few cars or sightseers and it seemed the Atlantic put on a private show for us. I highly recommend it.
