Old Mill Holiday Hostel
Reviewed March 29, 2010

I really liked this hostel. Lots of character and very friendly staff. The kitchen/common area has a very sociable feel and we meet some fellow hostellers who brought us to some of the live music bars i hadn't spotted the first time I was in Westport.
The dorms are clean and spacious. We stayed in one with seven beds, that we had pretty much to ourselves(there was 4 of us).Wecould all have showers at the same time so not much time waisted before going out.
The hostel is smack bang in the center of the town.It rained one day so the cinema right behind the hostel was actually really handy.

I think we only paid 17.5oeuro each to didn't break the band and we found it nice to be able to make ourselves feel like we where at home rather then the unwellcoming feeling some other hostels have.

From the minute we walked in the door were welcomed by friendly staff and made to feel at home. Very relaxed and really enjoyed weekend. Would definitely recommend to friends and would definitely stay there again on next trip to westport.

Mismatched nylon bedclothes, bunk beds that you have to strip when you leave, communal formica bathrooms that are indescribable and smell of mould with top notes of Vim, sporadic warm water, place was freezing even in May, no towels, not secure, this is what I think detention centres or bail hostels must be like. I didn't book this myself, and you can't expect too much for 25 € per night, but come on! Whoever owns this place is surely having a laugh.

Probably best for people under 20 who are saving their funds and like the idea of randomers wandering in. Everybody else, stay somewhere nice instead.

I had a really great time there.
It is an amazing refurbished old building.
It is so nice that they don`t have T.V. there. The staff is very nice and friendly, the hostel was always tidy and clean.
The big kitchen is great place where we met warm and friendly people and went to town for a few drinks. The bars in Westport are amazing with traditional Irish music. Westport is a lovely town with river and bridges. We didn`t have enough time to climb Croagh Patrick, the holy mountain. I am definitely coming back again. West is best. :)

This hostel could do with serious updating. The private room i stayed in had mustard walls and ceilings and was bleak to say the least. There was a communal shower with very limited supplies of hot water. The free breakfast consisted of value white pan loaf. The only good thing was the location - it is very central. I did not enjoy any of the time i spent in the hostel, the mattresses were very hard and lumpy. Westport is lovely this hostel is not.
