“Beautiful & Accessible”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This a must if you get the weather when you visit Westport.

There are multiple distances from 11km, 29km or the full 43km one way. The bike hire companies arrange shuttle buses to bring you back to your origin if that's what you want.

The surface is great, plenty of people about so you're not isolated, scenery is beautiful and it takes you through the heart of some farms etc which gives you a real sense of closeness to the environment.

“Wet but worth it !”
Reviewed September 14, 2013

We used Clew Bay bike hire for our trip on the Greenway. They were really helpful and very reasonably priced, especially considering that the shuttle out to Achill to get you started and roadside assistance is all included.
The cycle itself is stunning in places, and very manageable.
We had a wet day, but that really take much away from the experience. We took our time and had a lovely break beside the open fire in the pub in Mulranney.
All in all, a highly recommended way to spend a day :)

“Watch out for those cyclists”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

A great attraction. Well worth walking or cycling on this trail. Sadly there seems to be little or no public transport in the area so if you are walking you have to return on the same pathway.

“tough but very enjoyable”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

We travelled from Westport to Achill Sound on the Great Western Greenway. The weather was pretty good, it took us three and a half hours and we would think of ourselves as moderately fit. Finding the route out of Westport was easy enough if you keep your eyes peeled for the signs. Westport to Newport took about 50 mins and was relatively easy going. From Newport to Mulranny it got a bit tougher as the sea breeze was in our face which made it a little bit harder. From Mulrany to Achill Sound the sea breeze was still in our faces so it got a bit tougher because of the time in the saddle. It is certainly a doable 42km cycle for someone moderately fit and there are some lovely views on the route. I would be concerned if it was a windy day, perhaps getting dropped out to Achill Sound the cycle back to Westport with the wind at your back might be a better route.

“Brilliant family activity”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

We cycled the Mulranny to Newport leg of the Greenway with two young kids in two trailers. We hired bikes form Clew Bay Bike Hire who were efficient and professional. Took about 2 hours to complete the cycle. We availed of free shuttle back to Mulranny and cant have waited more than 10 mins for it. The scenery is beautiful. The cycle easy enough. The kids loved it. A great resource
