Went here to pass away a wet Saturday afternoon and well worth the trip. Shame the weather stopped what looked a nice walk around the gardens but the main house is very impressive. It’s been preserved in much of its natural state and you can really feel how the people most have lived in it. We were there during Halloween and they made a great effort dressing the house with all sorts of scary creatures. They try hard to make this place interesting for everyone. The whole history of how it has been created is fascinating and a lesson in entrepreneurial skill. The Marquis was a pretty smart guy and not afraid to try anything to get people through the gates. Well Westport House

The many paintings and other treasures scattered over the house and the lovely views from tall Georgian windows add to its distinct Architectural charm. Well worth at least a couple of hours, more if you want to read the many informative sign boards itsmizing the history of Granuale and the Browne family.

Very interesting house and history, great to see the rooms as they were and the grounds are fantastic. Good for family events and lots of activities for families.

Visited on bank holiday monday with my family of 2 adults and 4 kids at a cost of 75.00 euro. I would not recommend as value for money. I was last here 3 years ago and nothing has changed. No money has been spent on the upkeep at all. The rides for children are very run down, weeds and overgrown briars all around the area. No improvements, even the car park is not tarred, my daughters life jacket zip would not zip up, the life jackets we were given must be years old and very grubby looking, the swan boats are very dirty inside. The cannonball run slide, in a big derelict hay shed, even the handles on the mats were broken. The area around the cannonball slide was full of overgrown briars and hedging, also the go kart area was very unkempt looking and the drinks machine was empty, as my son was thirsty. The toilets at the kids area for females was filthy, had not been cleaned all day. Would have looked for a refund, only did not want to spoil my kids day out. I will not be going back here unless they decide to have a makeover, and add some extra rides for kids. Very disappointing for the price i paid.

First off, the excitement of our tour guide was radiating. I can’t remember her name, but she had blonde hair and glasses and stated she also lived at the house.
She was precious and a real gem to the house!
We only did the tour of the house, not the pirate adventure.
The house itself is filled with so much history. We loved being able to walk around the house after being given a tour by the guide. Going where we please at our own pace was unique, something we weren’t used to while touring in our home in the states of the old homes.
We are excited to see what will be done with the place seeing it has new owners, the house right now we thought was amazing.
We hope to one day return to Ireland with a stop at the Westport house.
Definitely recommend a tour here!

Loved our visit to Westport House and learning about it's history. We really enjoyed being able to walk around the house alone without being shepherded around in a group so we could take our time in areas which were of interest to us. There is plenty of information on each of the rooms and the lady at the reception desk was particularly friendly and informative. There are even the original dungeons in the basement! Very pretty gardens too.

Myself and my partner visited here on our holiday in westport. The grounds are beautiful. The lake behind the house offers trails to walk along to the harbour. The day we went the weather was sunny and warm and it a most enjoyable walk. We also visited the house which is a must see it tells the story of Grace O'Malley the pirate queen and the Browne family who owned the house threw generations. They were involved in abolishing slavery and also helping out in Ireland during the famine. The house is magnificent. Shake hands with the angel on the stairs for luck. We spent 2 hours here it is fascinating and very cultural. Go and see it you won't be disappointed

I've just visited Westport House and because we were a group of 12 people, the hotel we were staying in (Westport Coast hotel) arranged for the little tourist train to take us there and also a trip around the town. Our guide Ro was terrific. She gave us a passionate account of the history of the house and it's former residents. I highly recommend a visit there.

We went on a wet weekday with a CIE tour group. Nothing particulalrly compelling about the museum, although the story of the Grace O'Malley, the Pirate Queen was interesting.

Went in Oct during the week so only the house and garden were open, no pirates. For me it was very interesting, very good signage with information about the family, the house and the pieces in the rooms. Be sure to check out the former dungeon!

Garden was more of a park and there was a nice level walkway into town. Looks like a lot of the neighbors bring their dogs for a walk, and clean up nicely after them.

Tea room was closed but they had complimentary tea and coffee available.
