“Great stay!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

We had originally booked to stay on the Saturday night only in Westport but due to last minute change in plans - organised on the Friday morning to stay Friday night also. Unfortunately we didn't get one of the 'deals' however we did get a fantastic room. Overlooking the river and with the window open could hear the weir which was was lovely.
Previous times we've stayed on the Quays so it was great (and preferable) to be right in the centre of town. Parking was OK too, with the car park just behind the hotel at 2 euros.
Apart from breakfast, which was really good and cooked to order we did not eat in the restaurant. Service was very good. Reception staff were really friendly and we'd happily go back to stay again....especially if we could have the same room!

Room Tip: Ask for the best one they have availble!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Clew Bay Hotel. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay.

To enquire about staying in the same room on your next stay, do book directly with us. We are only a telephone call away, and would love to help plan your perfect short break. The river to the rear of the property is delightful, but all our rooms are furnished and fitted out to the same style, yet all have individual character.

I will pass on your kind comments to our reception staff.

Best wishes,

Neil Thompson

Number one advantage is the hotels location. Right in the town. On arrival we got a nice warm welcome. They did not have the type of room we booked available and put us into a larger room. Fair enough. Only thing is the room was obviously not used often, was tired, creeky and need of a lift. Also the room overlooked the road. Contrary to assurances from the receptionist there was quite a lot of road noise during the night from cars and agri vehicles. The bar and restaurant are quite nice. Food was tasty, drinks and staff were very nice. The bistro wasn't great. The food was alright, nothing special. The staff could buck up their act. Not great value. We were not looking for anything special but it should have been better. All said and done this is a nice hotel. We got a good rate and we would go back. We would just make sure everything was in order prior to arrival.

Room Tip: For a quiet night insist on a room at the rear

Dear Ken,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at the Clew Bay Hotel. Thank you for taking the time to post comments on Trip Advisor.

We were pleased to accomodate you in a change of room for your stay. In order to select your choice of room we do encourage guests to book with the hotel directly.

Sorry that you experienced a poor standard of customer service in the bistro restaurant. We have recently released a 'Guaranteed Irish' menu for 25 Euro: a three-course meal of locally-sourced ingredients. We have received very favourable comments regarding the quality and style of our menu, and the bistro is a very popular place to eat in the town. We are the first hotel in Westport to be awarded Guaranteed Irish status.

We would be very pleased to welcome you back for future stays at our hotel. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Very best wishes,

Neil Thompson

We stayed at the hotel for two nights on a special mid week package.,Our room for the first night was at the front of the house and as I am a very light sleeper I asked for a room at the back.
There was no problem in changing and the staff were helpful and courteous,Food and service in the restaurant was top class and I would definitely stay there again . I would also point out that the hotel is very central to all the shops pubs etc.

Excellent value for money, rooms are clean and spacious and though a little dated, are well presented. Staff are very very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast was good. Over all a great place to stay, great value and perfect location.

I stayed at the Clew Bay with my parter a while back and we had a wonderful stay. The staff were excellent, the rooms were spotless and roomy, they had all the amenities and the TV was a great size. Breakfast was fantastic the next day with all the home made breads etc and again the staff were great. I shall be back.

we didn t stay at the hotel but went for a meal, the food was wonderful, not really expensive around 10 euro for main course. but i have to stay if you have never been in a restaurant in Ireland be careful for the price of glass of wine. we had homemade bread and with cheeks we asked if they sell a loaf, they do. DO LEAVE WITHOUT BUYING ONE SITS TO DIE FOR.

We stayed for 2 nights and pais a graet rate of 99 euro for 2 nights B&B and 2 dinners. The room was excellent(ROOM 228) with king size comfortable bed, large ensuite with bath, and tea/coffee making in room. The meals on both nights were excellent with a very good selection.I had the black pudding starter and lamb shank main,a personal favourite, which were as good as i have ever eaten. My wife had the hake fish dinner which was also great.Service was with a smile and very relaxed.Breakfast was also first class with a great selection of fruit cereal and cooked breakfast. We would highly recommend this hotel which is is a great location in town for all the entertainment and easy access to local scenery.Parking costs very reasonable next door in Public Car Park which has large leisure centre and multiplex cinema so great for families.

Room Tip: We had room 228 at the back of the building .
