“A good night's sleep in Westport”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

Coming back home from Connemara we decided to stop here for the night. After arranging a good deal at reception for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast, we went for a swim in the spa pool. This was followed by a good dinner from Seamus (the ever so talented chef at Knockranny), with amazing views of Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay and the town of Westport. Then back up to the room for a great night's sleep. Second time staying here and the rooms we've stayed in have been sumptuous. Will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Definitely spend a little more and get yourself a Master Deluxe Room or even one of the cosy Courtya...

If the #1 requirement of a hotel is a good nights' sleep, then that I had. But a pleasant ambiance was harder to come by.
We were moved to this property by another hotel in town, and upgraded to 2 suites. The suites were massive and therefore fun, but sterile. The hotel is so strung out that it took quite a bit of walking and 2 different elevators to reach our area. A lady with a cane walking down our hallway quipped that "they should issue bicycles" to get around.
My call to reception to request a wake-up call was answered by desk agent who didn't conceal his annoyance. And the next morning, no wake-up call. Breakfast service was abysmal. A pot of tea took 20 minutes, the buffet had empty fruit bowls and on the 2nd morning, after 30 minutes of waiting, we had to seek out someone to take our order. The plates took another 30 minutes. Apparently there was an electrical problem, and the staff simply disappeared en masse. Tip to manager: your customers will understand if you explain delay; they will be peeved if instead you leave them sitting with only an empty teapot for company.
Nice rooms are a plus, but service makes the difference between just okay and outstanding.

Room Tip: For those who walk with difficulty, ask for a room close to reception and restaurants.

Really enjoyed our stay here in September 2012. We picked the hotel on reviews alone and it lived up to it's reputation. Staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is outstanding. We booked our stay directly via the hotel website and availed of a 3 night midweek B&B with two dinners package.

Firstly, the room. We stayed in 405 which seems to be a newer wing of the hotel. These ensuite rooms are very spacious with equally spacious bathroom (apparently we were upgraded). Room featured a kingsize bed, seating and a nice Bose sound system (you can pipe the audio into the bathroom too!). Bathroom has a shower area, lighting control and jacuzzi style bath. The room is located at the end of a corridor so it was very quiet and certainly here any passing noise or from neighbouring rooms. So a peaceful sleep! No views from the room but there are some fine views of Croagh Patrick from the dining and bar areas.

The dining. It's excellent. They have won various award for their restaurant and I can see why. Food was delicious, well presented and the staff super friendly and attentive. Menu varied nightly and the staff had a nice habit of dropping little tasters and surprises between courses. The bar food menu is equally good. One word of warning - they have a notice warning about the busy breakfast time of 9.15-10.00am. Worth heeding as you are likely to have to wait on a table - though they do manage the queue well. You should also advance book evening reservations.

The hotel has a spa and use is complimentary for hotel guests. Nice facilities - vitality pool, steam rooms, sauna and a range of massages and other treatments (not complimentary). It's worth noting that the spa area is over 18's only so the vitality pool is off limits to kids.

Location wise, the hotel is a little out of town so not ideally located if you want to be in the centre of things - it's a 5 min drive.

On the downside - I was a little surprised that there is no wheelchair access through the front door into reception. There is full access immediately to the right of the entrance through a drawing room but the doorway is a bit awkward. I was a little surprised at this. There is no issue with access once inside the hotel (none of our party are wheelchair users but we did have a pram and used the wheelchair access).

We were travelling with a 3month old and while there are family rooms available, there doesn't seem to much for older children to do (the vitality pool is off limits). In fact, I didn't see any other children in the hotel during our stay.

The hotel is a bit of a labyrinth inside which can be a bit confusing. There is no shortage of wayfinding signage so you won't get lost but do expect some odd routes when going from, say, the rooms to spa.

Overall, we really enjoyed staying at this hotel and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The 400 series rooms are very spacious.

We booked in for spa treatments and the therapists were great, I had Kathleen and she was excellent she took out knots on my back that I did not know I had also got the best pedicure and a lovely facial. We ate in the restaurant which was included in our package and the food was top class presentation was excellent. The bed was extremely comfortable. I hope to be back soon again

This was my second time staying in KHH. I remember the food from my first visit 3 years ago and it was the main reason for us returning. However I was a little nervous when I read some of the recent reviews on Tripadvisor. Needless to say they were proved wrong. We eat in the restaurant twice as we got a great 3 night B&B 2 dinner deal. The food and service on both nights was excellent. 2 of the best meals I have ever had. We also received a complimentary room upgrade to a grand deluxe. I agree with previous comments that the room was huge and more like a suite. The bed was extremely comfortable and the jacuzzi bath was great especially after the Greenway cycle. However the only compliant is that the window was narrow which made the room dark during the day and warm at night. I would definitely recommend this hotel and especially the restaurant.

Room Tip: The hotel sometimes give complimentary upgrades....so don't be afraid to ask!!

Nice relaxed atmosphere, room although classed as superior was dated but very comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. The only issue we had was the evening meal, it was expensive and not worth anything like the price we paid, portions were tiny and poorly presented, would stay again but would try elsewhere for dinner.

The spa area was very nice and clean, treatments ok but nothing to write home about!
Overall, enjoyed our stay but there is better value to be had.
