First, let me commend the staff on working with us when the meals arrived dry and tasteless.
The starters were delicious, and the desserts good. However, for the price, I wouldn't do it again.

Enjoyed a very good meal at Restaurant Merlot, with both the food and service to a high standard.

The restaurant lives up to the very high standards of the Westport Plaza Hotel in which it is situated, and with such quality of food and service we will certainly return on future visits to Westport.

I am always a little dubious when visiting a hotel restaurant, but this restaurant allayed any fears. We shared a starter of ham hock croquette, peas puree and a broad bean sauce which was a delight. For mains I had the rump of lamb which was cooked to my perfection (pink on the inside, but crisped on the out) while my partner had the local steak; now she likes her steak well done (much to my chagrin), but it was actually the best cooked well done steak we have ever tasted - well done, but it still cut and tasted like butter! For dessert we shared a dark chocolate pyramid/mousse with Bailey's ice cream. Delightful, and the portion sizes were spot on even though we shared two of the courses. We are looking forward to visiting this restaurant again on our next trip to western Ireland.

This is a sister restaurant to the Orchard which is in the Castlecourt hotel. It is slightly more expensive but still good value. The quality of the food and service is excellent.

Great food at great prices. 4 different starters but alas we all chose the same main course - hake which was unanimously declared delicious.
