Description: An Port Mór Restaurant is run by Chef-Proprietor Frankie Mallon. Our philosophy is to use seasonal, artisan produce from local suppliers. House specialities include pot roasted pigs cheeks with black pudding & apple and vanilla sauce and 21 day dry-aged sirloin. The main emphasis is, however, on local fresh seafood and shellfish, particularly lobster, crab, scallops and langoustines fresh from the west coast of Ireland, especially Clew Bay.

I ate here with my husband while staying in Westport. I had the goats cheese to start and the lamb as mains- both were delicious especially the lamb. My husband had salmon starter and roast chicken for mains- both were excellent. Besides our friendly waitress the one other thing that stands out is the great selection if accompanying veg with our mains- at least 4 types, from whipped beetroot to sweet potato gratin - all so unique and so tasty. We'll worth a visit to this gem of a restaurant.

Came for the early bird and was great meal. We had pig cheeks and smoked salmon for starters. But what was most impressive were the mains, with an incredible array of vegetables - fennel, broccoli, courgettes, spinach, mangetout, gratin potato - arranged to compliment the excellent meat (lamb and pork belly respectively). Two courses for 22 Euro - great value!

My mother and aunt demanded I come on tripadvisor and write a review for An Port Mór. It's the first time they've ever asked to write a review. My mother (from Dunmore East in Co.Waterford) and my aunt (immigrated to Canada in the 70's - now visiting home) said this was the highlight of their bonding session while travelling the entire Island.

The wanted to let the owners know they have never eaten such a fantastic meal in their life. Recently returning from Rome together they said not one restaurant in Rome compared to the food or the service they received at An Port Mór.

Some of the quotes I've heard them say:

"A local told us of the little restaurant down a back alley in Westport. We couldn't believe how good the food was" - My mother

"Not one restaurant we visited in Rome compared to this place" - My Aunt

"The even helped us plan a route to Galway where we saw some of the most fantastic scenery we would have missed otherwise" - My mother

"I'm actually planning a girls weekend away just to take my friends to this restaurant" - My mother

"This is the kind of place that makes me miss Ireland. You'd never have this type of friendly service in Canada" - My aunt.

The list could go on here. My mother is actually in the process of writing a blog for me to post on my website which has nothing to do with restaurants. We hope the owner gets to see this review. Thanks again.

Three of us visited here on a Wednesday evening and dined from the a la carte menu. Our welcome was cool to say the least. Our table indicated with a wave of the hand, as also was the coat stand for our wet coats. Not a good beginning to the evening. However the food was delicious. Husband had the goat cheese starter which was picture perfect in presentation and tasted as good. The two lamb dishes were beautifully cooked as were the baby veg. The mixed plate of desserts was shared by two of us and the panacotta also tasted - all were good. The chocolate tart was too solid though the pastry was superb. Service at the table was good but they forgot to serve our coffee so, after waiting 15 min, we decided not to bother with it. Final opinion by all was that the cooking is great but they could learn a lot about service from Temptations restaurant just up the road.

Dear Angela0491,
I assure you that your experience does not reflect the usual high standard of service in the restaurant. Please accept our sincere apologies for the rush at time you arrived. We are just glad that you enjoyed the food so much and we hope you enjoyed the service once the meal was underway. Thank you for sharing your experience and we promise to make it up to you, including the coffee, should you visit us again.
Kind regards,
On behalf of all the staff.
