“Great for the kids.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 14, 2012

We used to frequent Westport House Camping & Caravan Park until we thought it was too expensive. So we were delighted that Westport House Camping & Caravan Park were offering a fantastic end of season deal of half price pitches and 20% off your ticket into Westport House and Pirate Adventure Park when you camped there. As other reviewers have pointed out it was very wet at the end of August and some of the sites were very soggy but we found one that was alright. The facilities were as good as I remember them and were cleaned frequently. The children loved the Pirate Adventure Park as much as ever and loved going to the soft play area in the evening. Overall, it is great for the kids and we enjoyed our stay here very much.

The park is wonderful, check in was simple and told that we were getting a special offer(a pitch and esb for 4 nights for only 39 euro).i was shocked...What a bargin!!!
the green areas are very well kept and the toilets and washing facilities exceeded my expectations. The park has so much to do.Swan boats were great, swinging ship, bumpers, log flume, bouncy castle....and a host of other activities.I think this park is the very best i have ever been to and anyone used to camping in ireland would be shocked at the facilities.the staff are very friendly.the power on the campsite is superb.....no even the rain upset this holiday. The price of going into the park was 16 euro per adult and because my children were under 3 they were free. The cost wont bother you when you see all there is to do in there.
I would recommend this park to anyone, its a bargin.

This was our second time here - the first time a number of years ago and I didn't like the site at all but decided time can bring change and headed out again. We spent 3 nights here on their all in deal. I can honestly say though 80% of the staff were friendly and it was over all clean, I will never go back.
The site itself is very badly located in a dip so any bit of rain results in flooding of the pitches. One heavy shower landed us in 10 inches of water in the tent so that everything was destroyed and we had to pack up and move and send all our clothes to the laundrette. Had the vaacum tanker not pumped out the water in the area before we arrived we would have known not the camp there. Everytime it rained, the tanker came in to pump out the flood water and we felt it only fair to inform any new campers that the area they were about to pitch their tent in was a potential flood site.

The extra we paid for admission to the adventure park for the three days was not worth it at all. We lost the first day with pitching and getting set up and the second day with sorting out the flood. To be honest the one day we spent in the park was enough. Very little is included in the price and with a family of 5 on a budget it didnt leave much for them to do. Two rides, a slide (for older kids) and a bouncy castle (for younger kids)....They defintely need more in the park for the little ones who dont meet the height restriction for the rides. The queues for the train and pedaloes were an hour long. Not worth the wait with moaning kids! The zip wire, zorbing, archery, laser pigeon shooting etc are all extra and at a HEFTY price per go!!!!! Bring a fat wallet if you wish to avail!
There is also a small indoor play area for small kids included - but is a long way from the park and it is HOT inside! The staff were unfriendly and several times I asked for a drink of water for my daughter who was very hot and was refused and told - the tap is broken, we're not allowed and I was to buy something from the machine. Really? You cant give a hot child a drink of water thats a disgrace considering the money I'd spent!

Bottom line if you've plenty of money go for a day trip just the once to see for yourself but definitely dont camp there....

We camped here from Thursday to Sunday and I will start with the good point which were many. There was a sale on when we got there so it was half price, €19 per night. The toilets, shower facilities were kept clean at all times. The wash up area was also kept clean with the rubbish emptied regulary. We didnt go into the pirate park this time although we did make use of the activity centre which is great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Be prepared to spend though if the kids want to have a go at everything. Great fun though. There was live music in the bar every night except one but not loud enough that it would disturb you if you wanted an early evening. The bar staff were lovely and great with the kids.
Now for the bad, They might want to do look at the irrigation as it was very water logged. I know it had rained before we got there but this Ireland, It rains alot! We were lucky when we got there it was quiet so we were able to locate a place that was somewhat dry. The main problem for us were some of the reception staff. Some of them and I stress some of them were rude and full of attitude, others were fine.
All in all I'm not sure if I would pay to camp here again. The attitude we recieved from some staff members makes me unsure on this.

1st time to stay here, was recommended to us by friends. We stayed 2 nights and found the sites very good - not very large and thankfully we didn't have awning as the wet weather seemed to be playing havoc with other campers! Toilet block clean although the water in the showers was too hot and not adjustable. There is lots to do for kids although mostly at an additional cost. The campsite was 38 euros per night for us and then we paid another 60 euros (discounted price) to the park for one day. The pedestrian path is only 10-15 mins walk to the town. The park is lovely and we were through the house also which even the kids enjoyed. The swan pedaloes, pirate queen, water ride and train entertained us all afternoon in glorious sunshine. Lovely place to stay but worth checking out if there is special offers before you go.

My family and I spent more than a week camping here, and having camped the previous year in Lough Key Forest Park,I was not too keen to camp again, mainly due to how dirty the showers were there. However after 2 days in Westport I met the cleaner one morning and complemented her on how clean the toilets and showers were kept,to which she replied 'Clean, clean, clean. All day clean! '' The place is spotless, and travelling with my family and staying in a tent ,it was important to have clean toilets etc.For camping there is a choice of two areas;one is tents only in an area with lots of trees and shelter around a large green area,or to camp where caravans and motor homes go and avail of electric hook-up which we did.The pitches for motor homes etc were very close to each other, but we found space on level ground ideal for our trailer tent.I have only one fault, and that was no area to cook or eat in.If it had it would get 100% marks from me.Prices there include showers (lovely & hot) and electric supply. The site is great for kids, space to cycle and play.Entry to the grounds to the house cost extra .Use of play areas (Pirates Den) and pitch & putt free after 6pm to campers.Bar on site, serves good portions of burgers, fried chicken etc tasty and keen price ( they won't rob you).Child friendly, cheerful barman (younger guy) and busy at weekends.Loud music on one night which we could hear, but not late into night...no anti social behavior tolerated; two fairly hardy looking security lads on till 4am.Short walk to quay area & Westport town.Lovely place to stay .4 Stars,5 if it had a place to cook in & laundry room. You should phone ahead to stay to see if space available, but no reservations taken. But do go,its great ,especially in fine weather !

Just spent 4 days at this campsite and really enjoyed it. The staff were great, really friendly and they had no prob charging our dvd players, phones, ds's etc as often as asked. Toilets clean, and the adults enjoyed the hot showers- my four year old did not. Great sand pit in the centre of the campsite - the kids enjoyed this.

Gracys bar was really nice, fair enough prices and the food was good. 10% off food for campers.

The pirates den was great when the weather was bad one evening, so there was somewhere for the kids to go, free to campers 8pm-11pm.

So all in all the campsite and staff were fab - 2 things that would make it a bit better would be a drying room, and somewhere to buy milk and bread in the morning.

The pirate adventure park was a bit of a joke - ridiculous prices - for not alot. The day we visited there were no bumper cars and the pirate ship was out of order; the bouncy castle was only up when it was not raining (which is understandable) and nothing else started on time. The train didnt start until 11.30am - our kids did like it though. And the swans didnt start til 12 midday, as the guy working there was bailing water out of each individual swan with a plastic bottle, it rains in ireland, this should have been taken into account and prepared for, before 11am kickoff!!!

So basically what we got for our money was the log flume ride (big queues for this as there wasn't much else working); cannonball ride, train and swans. The basement of the house which was suppose to be kid orientated was also a joke, funny mirrors but that was it. I am afraid to mention the invisible fish in case my cousin has a heart attack if she read this. It really was poor. The house itself and grounds were beautiful - what you would expect.

So all in all, we;ll be back to the campsite (really nice, quality staff) - and may visit the pirate park at greatly reduced prices if we havent anything else to do,
