We had a quick stay in Bertra House (1 night only) but it was a lovely stay. Margaret was so friendly and I felt very relaxed in the house. After a tough Croagh Patrick climb the piping hot shower was just what I needed. we really enjoyed our stay here and will definately stay again if we are in the area.

I really enjoyed my time at this B&B, we stayed a week. We felt very welcome and at home, service was very friendly, real good choice of breakfast. I would definatly recommend this B&B to anybody. Town centre was 10 mins in the car, the town centre is lively and has a good atmosphere, it is nice to go for a drink and a meal. This B&B is 2mins away from the beach.
The hostess would make you very very welcome and all your needs will be met. This bed & breakfast is also child friendly.

We stayed at Bertra House one night with our family of six (three teens and a 10 year old). Margaret greeted us warmly - we had arrived later than we'd anticipated, and we were worried that she might give away our rooms (we'd tried to call but couldn't get through on our phones), but she assured us that she'd never give away our rooms, especially with a party of six and knowing that we'd have trouble finding another place to stay. That was very reassuring to us.

Our rooms were large by European standards. The room for the three teens had a double bed and twin bed and a little sitting area by the window. The double room for my husband and me was a little smaller, and Margaret had thoughtfully brought in a fold out bed for the 10-year old. She must have had to take out furniture from the sitting area, so that was very nice of her. The bathrooms were small, but there was a nice little shelf for our toiletries (most of the Irish bathrooms at the places we stayed didn't have any place to put our things). However, we had to let the water run at least 4-5 minutes before any hot water came out. I felt very wasteful.

Both rooms had hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities, and the rate was 90 euro per room.

Breakfast was very good - the standard Irish breakfast. The location was OK - I think we would have preferred to be within walking distance to town or shops, especially with three teens who like to go exploring.

All in all, it was a very pleasant, though average, stay.

We would name several of the B&Bs in which we stayed our favorites and this was definitely one of them! Margaret was friendly, pleasant and more than anything, FUN! She is a great storyteller and we so enjoyed our interactions with her. We kept looking for others with her fun and spunk at other B&Bs, but she's unlike all others! She was very accommodating in meeting our every need during our stay and we wish we could have stayed longer. We very much enjoyed hanging in the sitting room, and the views from both the sitting and dining rooms were fabulous.....sunset was gorgeous! We experienced much of the same as most of the reviewers and feel confident that those two dissatisfied customers are the exception. We would absolutely recommend this B&B to anyone traveling to the Clew Bay area. Thanks so much Margaret!

I stayed at Bertra house with my boyfriend and his parents (who have never been to Ireland before) because of it's location - which is located at the foot of Croaigh Patrick and approx 500 yards from the beach. The location was out of this world and the sunny June weekend that we had, showed Croaigh Patrick and the beach, off to their best potential. The weather was that good we could actually see the church on the top of Croaigh Patrick, it was absolutely stunning.

Margaret, the owner of Bertra House welcomed us with a true Irish welcome and told us to come and go as we pleased. The rooms were tidy & clean and the breakfast was lovely, especially the home baked soda bread!! My boyfriends parents were given a 'room with a view' which overloooked the beach and has left them wanting to come back to Ireland and this little haven next year.

Nestled between the foothills of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay, lovely Bertra House is a treasure waiting to be discovered. Sheep, a gentle dog, and the owner, Margaret Gill, welcome visitors warmly. She thoughtfully has placed a litter of bottled water, candy bars, and tea in each room. Breakfast is served in the delightfully clean front room at your chosen time. I highly recommend this B&B to any staying the Mayo area; you are just a few minutes away from incredible beauty and a few minutes away from downtown Westport which offers the traveler good dinner options and a new recreational center with a 25 meter pool. My visits to Ireland as a featured author for Tourism Ireland take me to the country often, and this B&B stands out as one of the best!
