Owner description: Derryaun Crafts - Suzie Sullivan runs a small craft business in the wild surroundings of her home in the mountains of South West Mayo. Suzie's lifelong passion for craft work began as a child in Cheshire in the UK, with stitching, knitting and crocheting. Throughout her life she has always had hobby projects on the go but could only have dreamt where it would lead. She has always had a fascination for Ireland and all things Irish and moved to Mayo in 2001 with her husband Steve. She loves what Ireland has to offer - music, culture and the wide open spaces - and all of this is reflected in her work. She is now known throughout Ireland and beyond for her work in fibre art and flame worked glass. She has won several prestigious awards in the felting category of the RDS National Craft Competition. Her latest venture is The Quay Gallery, Westport, a jointly owned business run by Suzie and two award winning artists. Visitors are welcome to her studio, which is situated 9 miles south of Westport, but to avoid disappointment, please phone first to arrange an appointment.

Walking into to Suzie workshop was like stepping into my own personal heaven! A perfect space that is filled with inspiration, creativity and welcome. Bright and spacious. 8 girls all booked in for a three hour session to make our own beaded necklaces, there were mountains of beads and with Suzie guidance we all created master pieces and went on to complete the session with bracelets. A wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, beading was seriously addictive and so much fun, we did not want to leave!

“Jewellery making for beginners”
Reviewed May 21, 2008

Ideal for any ladies wanting to spend a day in Westport engrossed in making jewellery. Would be ideal for girls whose partners are on the golf course. Suzie Sullivan is from Cheshire and has set up her own workshop. She runs jewellery making workshops which can be arranged for small groups. I found it engrossing - the fime just flew by. Think back of beyond and then go further! That's where Suzie is. She has a purpose-built workshop that is like an Aladdin's cave of colour - beads of all hues! Whatever you make, you bring home with you - the cost of the materials is included in the course fee.
