We recently stayed for 4 nights at the Breaffy House Hotel on a coach trip to this area of Ireland. We were travellling with my wife's sister and her husband and the 4 of us tended to stay together for meals and drinks. We took dinner in one or other of hotel's restaurant or function rooms every night and after the first night we learned that if we wanted a drink with our meal that we should really go to Healy Mac's and buy it ourselves rather than ask the restaurant waiting staff to get it for us.
Must say that the Guinness was very good. However there were a couple of incidents that let this bar down. One night after dinner as it was a lovely evening we decided to sit out on the patio and have a further drink and 4 drinks were ordered. After an hour they had still not been delivered to our table so we went into the bar and cancelled the order. Earlier in the day we had been in Galway and had bought some beer and wine so all 4 of us just went upstairs and sat in one of our rooms with our drinks.
Another night when going to get our drinks for dinner we learned that they had run out of the house Pinot Grigio that my wife was in the habit of getting a glass of. The young lad on the bar searched high and low for another bottle. Then he was told to go to the restaurant to see if they had a bottle. After about 10 minutes he returned unable to find a bottle of said wine anywhere in the restaurant or in the storeroom. My wife then opted for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and she was happy with that. After our dinner we returned to Healy Mac's so see the entertainer who was due to perform, he was really very good, and when getting further drinks I found out from the young lad who had served us earlier that he had spent a fruitless 30 minutes trying to track down a bottle of Pinot Grigio. Looks as though the bar could do with sorting out its stock control!
