“All the Comforts in a quiet location”
Reviewed July 18, 2012

We stayed at Rocksberry for a couple of nights recently. Both the double room and the family room were very spacious compared to other b&bs that we stayed in previously. The beds were very comfortable with cozy duvets and pillows. Everything was supplied from shampoo to tea/coffee making to even hot water bottles for the colder night! The breakfast menu had a great choice to suit us all and the breakfast room was bright and cheerful.Nothing was a problem to Bernadette and her husband who gave us a lovely welcome and looked after us very well. I noticed that they had won a deserving Best Welcome in Ireland award some years ago. A great stopover if you are touring the West of Ireland around Castlebar or Westport. You will be looked after well for the rest of your journey. It is a few minutes drive outside Castlebar on the road to Westport - it is not in the town.We would definitely stay there again.

the location was fine, rooms clean, breakfast lovely.
so you would assume i would return or recommend?
no chance.
the "hostess" i found to be terribly rude and abrupt, and for her attitude alone, i would never. I only stayed 1 night and it was more than enough, to be made feel like an unconvenience.

Awesome hospitality. Just a solo overnight trip, booked at last minute. Rocksberry is 2 miles outside Castlebar, but landlady collected me from train station, drove me into town after I'd dropped my bags and freshened up. Her husband even dropped me to my bus the next morning too after they served up a breakfast better than you'd expect in a 4-star hotel. Full pot of fresh coffee, enormous fry, all the cereals, juices, toast, brown bread you could eat etc! Room v comfortable, complete with telly, radio, tea/coffee-making facilities, shampoo & shower gel in bathroom. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough.

We spent a week at the 4 bed Rocksberry Self Catering Bungalow in early September and it was a wonderful experience. We were not disappointed in the slightest. The landlady arranged to meet us at a local public house. We then followed her to the bungalow, she was very helpful, friendly and welcoming. The rooms are lovely and clean and spacious. The kitchen is especially luxurious, pine fitted with all mod cons. Cutlery and crockery were of plenty with crystal glasses and cupboards full of every tool you would possibly need to cook for all tastes. The kitchen has a dishwasher, large fridge freezer, toaster, kettle cooker and microwave. All clean and very nice. You may want to spend all your holiday just sat in the kitchen!!!! The main bathroom is lovely and much larger than the photos on their website gives it credit for. All 3 bedrooms are clean and welcoming, all with plenty of storage. The front room is small and if i had to critisise anything (which i dont want to do as this place was gorgeous) the front room doesnt cater for more than 5 people. It has a 5 piece black leather suite, so it does leave people sat on the stone floor. The utility room was a treat, with a washer and dryer, ironing board and iron, even pegs for if you want to hang your clothes out to dry in the irish wind! (wish doesnt take long!) There is a second toilet next to the utility room which is handy. There is plenty of room at the rear of the bungalow with a seating area. There is also plenty of room at the front of the bungalow for parking. If you live in a small house with a small kitchen, you will love this place. It is such a treat and you will not want to leave. All the cost of heating & fuel is included in the price that you pay when you arrive, so you are not stung with a extra fuel charge before you leave and you are not afraid to turn the heating on! The bungalow has 3 double bedrooms, 1 en-suite and 1 twin room. There are plenty of towels provided in the airing cupboard. If you are thinking of visiting the West of Ireland I would definaltey reccomend the Rocksberry as it is very central to all parts of Mayo and is only a 40 min drive from Knock airport. It is only 40 min drive to Achill Island which is gorgeous, untouched and magical. The Rocksberry will not disappoint.
