“A gem in the Emerald Isle”

All the comments you will read on the website are so true. We received great attention from Martina and Brendan (the coffee was to die for!) and stayed in the most comfortable of accommodations; modern, spacious, clean but located in a most green and pleasant enviroment. An excellent choice and we could not recommend it more highly.

My partner and I and my 87 year old mom stayed here and loved it. Martina was a wonderful hostess, the setting is very peaceful, the rooms very nice and the breakfasts were fabulous. Honey & Coco the dogs were fun. Would stay there again, in a heartbeat!
We also really enjoyed Westport - great shopping, great food (Shebeens was incredible!), and great music at Matt Molloys.

My wife and I spent 2 nights here in mid Oct. The house is new yet very traditional in design. Immaculte throughout, great beds, wonderfull hosts and a wonderfull rural setting. It was by far the best of what we considered a string of well above average B&Bs we stayed in during our vacation in Ireland. I would reccomend this guest home without any reservations and will stay there again, probably longer, when we go back to ireland next year.

We stayed at the Garden Gates for one night in May 2009. We were in the Lilac Room which had a lovely big, comfortable bed and a scenic view of the countryside out of the window. The whole of the house is extremely clean. There are two horses at the property and two very friendly dogs. Martina told us about a country walk that only took about 20 minutes. It gave us a taste of the area surrounding the house, which seemed very peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast was wonderful - my husband had a full Irish breakfast, whereas I had cereal followed by the most tasty french toast ever. Mmmm! Martina and her husband Brendan were very friendly and welcoming. We had a good chat with Martina at breakfast and she made us feel right at home. We ate our evening meal in a pub/restaurant at Westport Quay. Unfortunately we can't remember the name of the place, but the food was really lovely. It is situated at the far end of the Quay, near to the water and has an outdoor seating area for when the weather is good. It is worth a visit. We had a lovely stay at the Garden Gates and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. We would certainly stay there again.

A very warm welcome and a house full of character and loads of good parking for the bike :-) We were shown to a lovely spacious room done out very tastefully with an enormous bed (more of which later).

There was loads of wardrobe space for our bike gear and and a comfy guest lounge where we waited for the taxi to take us into Westport, which is about fifteen minutes away. We had a lovely Chinese meal, but can't remember the name of the place.

Back to the Garden Gates where we fell into bed (did I mention the bed?), which swallowed us up and gave us a brilliant night's sleep.

In the morning the breakfast was first-class with white and black-pudding and delicious home-made potato cakes, yum-yum!

Definitely one of the better places we stayed on our trip.

Great setting and base for exploring Mayo. The rooms we had were large, very clean, and had everything we needed. We were made very welcome by Martina and Brendan and our son loved meeting the horses in the back field. The breakfasts were superb, which offered a great choice and was well cooked with good quality food. I'll hopefully be back again.
