Carrowkeel Caravan & Camping Park is situated approximately 8 klm from Castlebar, Co Mayo. We decided to give it a visit last weekend 9th April 2010. We had heard good reports from other campers so we headed off on Friday evening looking forward to the fantastic weather promised and the peace and tranquility of the country side.
We arrived after tea and were instantly disappointed by our first impressions. The hard stands were badly laid out with no definition whatsoever. The shower block/toilet was crying out for a lick of paint and the overall decor could do with a complete overhaul.
What troubled me most was its remoteness. I love the peace and quiet but this site was way off the beaten path and personally I wouldn't feel safe.
There is a club house on site that serves food and drink. This has it's advantages for those who like to stay on site but during the summer season with lots of visitors it could be a nightmare if drink is abused and people get rowdy.
Personally we didn't like it's isolation and would not be inclined to revisit.
