stayed at scholars for one night on route to visit friends, could not fault the hotel very traditional townhouse style. our room was very comfortable, the breakfast was excellent i had the scrambled egg with salmon my wife the full irish, cooked very well and served with a smile a good experience, we wish we had eaten in the restaurant the night before because the room is just brimming with style, we had eaten in the bar which itself is full of charm the food fish and chips for me burger for my wife, sounds run of mill stuff but believe me it certainly was not run of the mill, great quality and restaurant quality service, a very good pint of guiness as well.

Live in Dublin and wanted to go somewhere not to far for a relaxing night. We searched through Trip Advisor and decided to give The Scholars Townhouse a go as its only 30 minutes drive from Dublin. The hotel is very traditional to the area with lots of historical memorabilia for thosr interested in a bit of history. From the minute we arrived we were treated like Royalty. We immediately felt welcome and comfortable in this upmarket, yet homely hotel.

We dined in the restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This is arguably one of the Best hotel restaurants in Leinster. When I eat out I look for the whole package and Scholars really does tick the boxes. The staff were a cut above and it was obvious they loved their jobs as the service was friendly, attentive yet not intrusive. The restaurant was packed with a real buzz and the food was top drawer and worthy of the highest compliment. If you are a foodie you won't be disappointed.

After dinner we retired for a nightcap in the cosy bar and it was just the icing on the cake to round of a lovely evening. The rooms have all the mod cons one would require and the beds were very cosy.

We had a lovely breakfast , read the paper and then said our goodbyes. Scholars really was a great experience and just the tonic for a weekend getaway. Thanks to all for a great experience and will return in numbers for my next visit.

This is a very nice traditional hotel with great food. We were there on New Year's Eve (but had an early dinner and went to bed) and though we could hear a bit of the festivities downstairs, we nevertheless had a good night's sleep. The room I had was on the small side (with a King-sized bed), but it had everything once could need/want. I believe larger rooms are available (if you book early). I'd certainly stay here again. As for the restaurant, it is "gourmet" quality.

General

A lovely location in a traditional old building that used to be a schoolhouse. Ideal for both holiday or business.

5/5 Check-in/out: extremely efficient and wonderful staff.

4/5 Reception/Lobby Area: Small but well laid out in an old traditional décor.

3/5 Room: Small and cosy. Had all we needed but could be a little larger. I am sure as we had the last room available there are larger rooms. Excellent bathroom and comfortable bed. Internet (free WiFi or cabled), iron, coffee maker, TV.

4/5 Ambience/General: very pleasant.

Food

4/5 Dinner: Excellent evening meal over the festive season. Quality, temperature and quantity all to be praised.

4/5 Breakfast; Excellent in all aspects.

5/5 Staff; Excellent staff in all areas of the hotel.

Facilities

Secure parking close to front door.

Average Summary Score: 4.2 / 5

I would certainly stay here again and excellent value for money.
