I live in Dublin but used to reside in Drogheda, and really enjoy going up for weekend visits so I can dine at a couple of restaurant gems (La Pizzeria, Eastern Seaboard, Brown Hound Bakery, Mo's Takeaway). But the issue has always been finding an affordable but nice place to stay in town. The d Hotel is a party hotel with endless stag/hens going on; the Westcourt is also home to a popular nightclub so it's loud. And the B&Bs in town? Let's just say they leave much to be desired.

So we decided to finally try Scholars this past weekend and what a pleasant surprise! We got a superb B&B deal for the evening which included a comfortable, clean and well-appointed room plus breakfast for two and free parking. The ambience of the hotel is wonderful - the bar is quiet and nicely decorated with rich leather furnishings and lots of old-fashioned paintings. Our room had everything we needed; it was small, but perfect and quiet. Breakfast was lovely and the location is so convenient - it's just two minutes walk into the town centre. The best part of Scholars is the service, it is outstanding. I feel like this place only hires experienced hotel and bar/restaurant staff, because they are friendly, competent and go above and beyond to assist guests.

We were so happy with our experience and we'll be going back to Drogheda more often now that we've found such a wonderful and affordable place to stay while there. Thanks so much to the staff for a lovely experience.

Myself and my wife ate here in December with friends. We were greeted at the door and our coats taking by a smiling member of of staff. Then shown to our table were the menus were awaiting us.

Wine choice was made which was one of the nicest i've ever had and food was ordered.

The menu choices were varied and there was a set menu for 35 euro i believe which one of our party went for.

Service was top notch and the food was of a really high quality.

After our meal we had another bottle of wine in the crowded bar and the staff were quick to get us a table.

Overall a very nice restaurant with amazing staff and service.

Only negative was the music in the dining room which was a little loud and not matching the ambience needed for the setting.

I will return to try the summer menu.

At the end of 10 day whirlwind tour of Ireland it was great to find this hotel and spend two nights relaxing before flying off home. On our next time to Ireland we will definately use their rooms and their restaurant. When we asked about a place to eat in town we were amazed to find that our hotel was one of the best places to eat. And that was from a couple of local we met in the bar! There is ample car parking. The hotel staff were excellent, very helpful and informative. The rooms were clean and well serviced. The hotel is ideally located a short walk from the city centre and all the historical features of the town. Drogheda itself is ideal to base yourself to see the tourist and historical features of the Boyne Valley.

Lovely old building with lots of character. The bedroom although a little small, was very well laid out. The bar food was very reasonably priced with first class service.

Absolutely everything you want in a quaint B&B. My parents are celebrating their 40th anniversary next year and I think this would be just the treat for them.

Friendly staff, great rooms and good food. No complaints at all.

Quite an idea that this former Christian Brothers residence was made into a hotel. The staff was marvelous and our room had stained glass windows!!. The bar and dining area were so comfortable and the food so good we did not even think about venturing out.
