“Great Hotel and Fantastic Location”
Reviewed March 13, 2010

We stayed here for a Saturday night as part of a hen party in February. The hotel was very reasonably priced, most of the hen party stayed on the Friday and Saturday night and paid €85 per person for 2 nights b&b and 1 evening meal. We stayed in a family room for 3 people which cost us €36.50 per person for 1 night b&b and the rest of the party stayed in twin rooms which cost €46.50 per person for 1 night b&b. We checked in to a warm welcome from the staff they were all extremly helpful and courteous which gave a very good first impression.

The hotel is beautiful, very modern and quirky and it's location is really good, in the heart of the town with free overnight parking too which is great for a town centre hotel. The Scotch hall shopping centre is right beside the hotel and its just a short walk over the bridge to loads more shops.

The bedrooms are very comfortable, very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable and huge. The bathroom was of average size. The rooms had views over the river.

We got up for breakfast at 10.40, its great to see a hotel that leaves breafast on till 11, the breakfast was fantastic everything was fresh and well stocked up and the menu was conteninanal and you could also get a full Irish. The rest of the girls were extremely happy with the dinner menu on the Friday night and they raved about how good the food was. The bar is quite spacious and drink in the hotel is not too expensive for a hotel.

Overall I would definitely come back to this hotel for weekend break in the future.

Generally the hotel is nice ,clean and trendy. The few gripes we had were the tv wasn't working and the receptionist didnt know how to fix it so she just left it without explanation. Our room was clearly for disabled people and while we have no problem with that, the shower was only for 5ft people or under and my partner is 6ft 3 so having a shower was a bit of a undertaking.Very puzzling was that to open the window my partner had to stand on a chair so it would be hard if you were short in stature like myself. We didnt have breakfast but some of the party did and were not impressed. The rooms were cheaper on a different website which was great but €13.50 for a breakfast is a bit of a rip.Its central to everything and backs on to Scotch Hall shopping centre so its good for shopping trips. The mens toilets at the foyer and no water whatsoever in the taps.We had bar food which was good and cheap enough. So to sum it all up ,would I stay here again?. Probably but would be a bit more specific about the room.Staff were a bit indifferent when we voiced our complaints but we put it down to the fact that it was valentines weekend so the place was very busy.Overall not the worse by a long shot but have been in better.

We stayed here on 2 separate nights on the way to Killarney. Each night cost 55 euros pp, including a 3-course dinner and breakfast. The dinner menu was a set meal for 25 euros, but with a reasonable choice. The breakfast menu was standard with a choice of 'full Irish' plus the usual cereal etc. The bedrooms are very comfortable with a huge bed and views over the river. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is free overnight parking too. My only criticism is finding the hotel! A map on their website would be helpful!

Just back from The D Hotel and all I can say is it was FAB!!!!! The hotel is beautiful, very modern and quirky. Rooms are very spacious and clean. The bed was very comfortable.. We checked in to a warm welcome from the staff. We went for dinner in the restaurant as part of our package and the food is excellent. I got a steak which was one of the best I ever had, ceaser salad was to die for and portion sizes are very big!!!
There was a Freddie Mercury tribute on the nite we were there, it was €10 in and so worth every penny. He was great, then a band afterwards and then a DJ, we had a great nite. Drink is not too expensive for a hotel, a pint of Bulmers/coors was €4.60.
The next morning we got up for breakfast at 10, its great to see a hotel that leaves breafast on till 11..............................................the breakfast was fantastic, even though it was after 10, you would have thought it was 8 in the morning, cos everything was fresh and well stocked up. BTW if you want different kind of eggs(They have scrambled out) just ask one of the staff and it will be cooked fresh for you.
The staff were all very nice and very efficent, nothing was too much trouble for them, its nice to see people who where obviously well trained.
It's location is really good, in the heart of the town and also theres a shopping centre right beside it..
The prices on their web site are great, we got 2 nites B & B/ 1 meal for 79 euro each!!!!
We will most definatly be returning and have recommended it to all!!!!!!

This hotel was what we expected and more compared to other hotels we have stayed in down south. It provided excellent accommodation for the reasonable priced asked, which was very econimical. we found the staff especially Niamh to be extremly helpful and courteous which gave a very good first impression to the start of our stay. The room was up to the standard you would expect from a 4star hotel and even though we booked a standard room only, it was nice to see a fridge was available. The free car parking was also an added bonus as we have stayed in a lot of hotels were you are told upon arrival that there is a charge. We did not actually try the food as we had already arrangements made elsewhere but next time we will definately give it a go.

CHECK IN AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Staff at reception were friendly and the manager introduced himself. He then checked us in. When we put the key in the door of the room it quickly became apparent there was already someone in the room. The bed was unmade, the TV on and there were noises from the bathroom. Could have been really awkward if the occupants of the room had noticed we were in the room. We were given another room but the card key didn’t work so another trip back to reception. At the third attempt the receptionist walked us to the room and unlocked the balcony door. After she had left we noticed the door wasn’t closing properly so we had to get her to come back up to lock it again. The room was freezing but that was fixed by a manual adjustment to the radiator. My husband tried to switch on the TV but couldn’t get it to work (found a button on the side in the morning that got it going) so we left for our dinner reservation. All in all a bad start.

DINNER AND DANCING
There was a real Christmas party buzz about the place. Food was excellent across all courses for both our meals. Breakfast the next morning was also excellent. There was a great bank playing in the later evening called “The Enemies”. I would go back to the D just to see hear them again. Apparently they are a regular Saturday night feature in the D. There were a lot of locals in the bar and this really added to the buzz of the place. There is a small dance floor and it was full most of the evening with people of all ages from teens to oldies. Great cocktails served and waitresses available to get drinks if you didn’t want to go to the bar. Great fun evening.

THE HOTEL AND LOCATION
Great for shopping, on the banks of the Boyne overlooking the old town of Drogheda, close to town if you want to go out to a pub elsewhere.

Stylish, modern hotel. Nice middle of the road bedrooms and bathrooms.

All in all I would recommend and would go back.

GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY - €55 pps for B&B and evening meal. A real recession buster.

Myself and my finance we on a 'shopping trip' considering this hotel for a wedding venue - Check in was swift and friendly but when we got to our room it was freezing, the chambermaid came in and said the raditor in this room was not working - my partner went to reception to complain and we were moved to a smaller roon which was equally as cold. We then moved back to the orignal room and were provided with a heater - all in all neither the manager or housekeeping manager appeared to respond well to our complaint. They did however send a bottle of wine with their compliments. The hotel is lovely, birght, funky and modern, the band that night was excellent as were the cocktails at the bar. They were understaffed at breakfast, long wating times for toast and coffee so overall not the best placed I have stayed in... the event manager was to leave details of the wedding venue which she didn't ...
