“Reliable but expensive compared to similar eateries”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

We have been eating at the Monasterboice Inn since I was a little girl, which is a LONG time ago. It's always been a great place for steak and for scampi and there is no doubt that you will leave with a full belly if that's your idea of a good meal. Plenty of food on the plates and everything very tasty too. It's got a nice buzz it especially if you are eating near the bar area. I like the old dining room too but I find the new area a bit too impersonal. A bit of a "pack 'em in" feeling, so wouldn't suggest that you book a table in there. It's gotten a lot more expensive over the past few years, so we have not visited as often but I wouldn't rule it out for an odd night out, especially if I had a craving for a big lump of steak.

“Nice Lunch Stop After Monasterboice & Newgrange”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2012

Good food....friendly staff...cold beer. Slightly more tourists than the type of places we usually like, but quite a few locals, also. (Not much else in the immediate area.) Sit at the bar and have a pint with your lunch...the bartenders were friendly and efficient!

“monasterboice inn donnegans”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012

had a meal in the monasterboice inn this evening after a long drive , on arrival we were given menus and asked to sit at the bar , an obvious coup to push the sale of drinks on the patrons , we waited there for ten mins and were given our table , we ordered crispy cod with mint peas and chips .... the missus ordered surf and turf , we waited a further 30 mins for our food to arrive . big disappointment , the cod was not cod , it was tastles cheap whitening , the batter was ok ,the mint peas had no mint , and were liquified , served with 19 chips . wouldnt fill a child . the missus surf and turf was a disaster ( steak and fresh prawns in garlic sauce ) never heard of it served with a side order of battered prawns . ( surf and turf should arrive piping hot with fresh prawns on top ) , the steak arrived in 2 seperate chunks , one was gorgeous the other we wrapped in tissue for the cat , like chewing rubber , garlic potatoes nice enough . we paid our bill . 43 euro . complained and left , (never had to complain in a restaurant ever) . staff there are friendly , helpful , sorry to say i wont ever be going back , way over priced , went in hungry waited 40 mins , paid 43 euro , left hungry , only sorry i didnt take a pic of the meal ya live and learn

“Large busy spot”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2012

been here a few times and it's grand for straightforward meat and two veg dinners, although a little on the pricey side - surely more restaurants can offer better value than they currently do? especially these type of large well established ones.... Staff are busy, efficient enough, usually friendly in fairness. large car park and often plenty of kids there too - it s a popular local spot but I wouldn't be heading there on a night out.
