Monasterboice was near the top of my list of things to see in Ireland. And I wasn't disappointed. Stark and beautiful round tower and high crosses, and a nice sheet of explanation from the volunteer sitting duty in the small building at the entrance to the area. Perhaps because it was September, there was only one other couple visiting at the same time. But I'm glad they were there, as well as the volunteer, because earlier that morning, the guide at Newgrange had advised I be careful: Cars had been broken into at the remote area where Monasterboice is located. I was in luck. No break-ins and lots of solitude for viewing the high crosses and tower. This is a don't-miss if you're anywhere nearby. Even worth a special trip, because it's not far from Dublin.
